Surgery 1/9/20 in Mexico

I am scheduled for a RNY Bypass on Jan 9, 2020. I’m super nervous about the protein shakes and the taste of things like that. I’m already such a picky eater, and I’m scared I will not like any of the flavors. I hate coffee and tea. I’m good with most juices, but still freaks me out.

Congrats on setting a date for your surgery! It is a very nerve-racking and exciting time. I too, used to be a picky eater. Now that I am being honest with myself, I was picky because I had it in my head from a young age that I didn't like veggies and fruits because we never ate them in my house. They were unknown and scary so I didn't try them once I was on my own and could do so. But when I started the journey for the RNY, I made myself start to try things that I automatically said I didn't like just because I didn't know any better. Some of the things, I was right about lol while others I absolutely loved (like asparagus). But like Dianna said, your taste buds will change. One food I hated before surgery was eggs. Now, I love scrambled eggs and omelettes but I just found out Sunday I'm not a fan of deviled eggs. On the other side of that, I bought plenty of protein shake powder before surgery that I loved, and ended up throwing most of it away because it was too sweet after surgery. I had to try several brands and flavors to find ones that would sit right with me.

With all of that being said, don't be afraid! Be excited. Your taste buds will change and your body will guide you into what you really do like and what you don't. Some people have become lactose intolerant after surgery while others can no longer stand the taste/texture of meat. Everyone is different but every single person that found out they didn't like or couldn't eat something, found a way around that to still maintain the healthy eating lifestyle. So I have a lot of certainty that you will be able to figure it out and make it work too! Good luck on your journey and let us know how everything goes :)
