Surgery date August 17th!

I just got scheduled for August 17th and am freaking out! I feel a lot of emotions that I wasn't expecting.

Of course I am excited and this is what I have been working towards... It's just now happening sooner than expected and I have to scramble to get my liquids purchased to start Monday.

What are some liquids you all ate before surgery or are eating now?

Thank you!

Water, crystal lite, vitamin water zero, more water, protein drinks, and creamy soups with no chunks. That is what made up most of my liquid diet. Post-surgery I was also allowed to have sugar free pudding, jello, and yogurt along with liquids during the liquid phase. Some doctors leave out the yogurt/jello/pudding until the puree stage, so I would check on that with your doctor.

Thank you so much, I will do that :)

I am laughing out loud at myself right now because I just wrote (or rather dictated) a very long, very passionate post about water. So now that I've had my dress rehearsal let me say this. Drink water. Drink 64 ounces of water with nothing in it. No sugar, no salt, no bubbles, no flavorings of any sort. You can drink all the other kinds of water that you want, but I have done research on it in the last 2 Days in several legitimate places and every single one of those places says water performs a very specific function that flavored water cannot duplicate. It removes all that nasty stuff in your bowels and out of your bowels and out of your bladder. And it does this because it is water, not because it is Kool-Aid or flavored whatever. If you do not want to drink 64 oz of water a day, then that's your choice but you will suffer the consequences. You will not lose weight as fast and your body will not be as clean inside. These medicos, through the history of bariatric surgery did not just make this up. These are scientists who know what water does in the body compared to what zero water does or whatever water you could name.

Undoubtedly I will mention water again, anytime we have newbies and Old Timers are incorrectly advising them that it's okay to drink Propel water or anything else like that. It is not okay to drink that or gatorade. Not only does it NOT perform the function of water, it leaves residue behind. Drinking so-called Sports water with supposed electrolytes in it and with flavorings in it, leaves waste behind. You are trying to clear your digestive system and give it a new start. Don't screw that up by giving it a treat. Flavored water is like eating candy. Don't do it!

I am completely prepared to be disagreed with because for some reason, people hate water there. Are you also hate being fat and you also hate the idea of getting diabetes and you hate all the comorbidities that come along with obesity. If you are willing to do the things you need to do 2 eradicate those comorbidities, go one step further and drink the water.

here is my standard response. Apply it to any complaint you feel necessary to make about my post: I don't care. DRINK WATER. GOD MADE WATER WITH SPECIAL MAGIC. I saw the effect in my own body. I think the proof is there.

I LOVE water and drink 160 ounces or more a day of plain iced water. They have actually told me that I will need to drink less after surgery as I will not have the capacity :)

You are absolutely correct. Thankfully I drink at least 3 16 oz bottles daily

Thank you Shawna and welcome to the group! It's all yours now. Ask anything and it will be answered. We won't give you medical advice. If you have a medical problem will tell you to contact your doctor. That's the very important answer to most people's questions curious

Hi Surgery Twin, I am having my surgery on August 17th too. I am in NJ and having the sleeve. Which procedure are you having? I have a booklet from the Bariatric Dietitian Dept. According to my booklet, (which is strictly for our program and not for every person or procedure) has listed for the pre-surgical diet plan--has three requirements. # 2 is drink at least 64 ounces of fluid. Beverage choices should be: sugar-free, caffeine free, non-carbonated and examples include water, sugar-free ice pops, low- sodium broth, herbal tea, sugar free/calorie free electrolyte waters. Further down, it's written, To prevent dehydration, drink at least one electrolyte enhanced beverage per day including Power-Aide Zero, Vitamin Water Zero, Gatorade Zero, Smart Water, Propel Water, Unsweetened coconut water. My last visit to the dietitian was in Feb before the pandemic. I am thinking of scheduling another visit to go over the pre and post diets again.

I’m 8 months post op,I didnt like drinking water that much after surgery and before never cared for regular water so I started drinking Hint flavored water and Vitamin Water Zero but I got tired of those because it was making crave more junk food so now I’m drinking regular water for about a month now and I’m fine with that . If I go out to eat which isn’t very often now I’ll sometimes get unsweetened Iced Tea

Hi. Congratulations on your surgery date! My program allowed 3 meals of soups, sugar free pudding and/or protein shakes a day, as well as other liquids, such as jell-o, broth and sugar free popsicles. Good luck!

I'm scheduled the same day. It was supposed to be July 24, but the surgeon could only remove my gallbladder that day due to it being severely diseased.
Tami, Congratulations on your new date. It's my date too. Also, Conshd. We are now triplets having surgery on the 17th. Today, I went for my COVID 19 test at the Hosp. I went for my pre admission tests last Monday and this is the last requirement. I went for my pre-surgery visit with the surgeon last Friday. It was scary because the procedure was explained to me, including all of the risks. I had gone to some of this before, but with the surgery so close now, it was as though, I was listening to everything for the first time. I had to sign a bunch of papers. I took my notebook with all of my questions and the Dr. answered each one to my satisfaction. I'm on my one week pre surgery diet, which really isn't too bad. I can't believe that next week, this time I might be home on my new lifetime journey.
