Feeling a bit shell shocked- they just called to schedule it. This has been a fast moving train as I am having to pay Out Of Pocket and have no health insurance mandates on diet timeframes and etc. That being said- I have been working towards this for about 9 months. I am looking for anyone in the same timeframe for support buddies if you are up for texting! I am on facebook and instagram- but I am going through this very privately and would rather only discuss this with people in the same path. Weird- feels like this has taken forever and also that it is faster than is comfortable. In the x-ray of the Barium liquid there were no issues except it did stay at the bottom of my esophagus for a moment. since then- I could swear I keep feeling like something is stuck there and I am getting super worried that I have some type of reflux issues and it wasn't identified. Here we go!

Thank you! So excited to chat with people on the other side of this path. 6 weeks- any major issues?
No major issues. I have nothing bad to say about my post-op experience. Most of the pain was gone after a few days and completely gone before eth end of two weeks. I started walking right after surgery and now walk 2-3 miles a day during the week and 4-8 miles on weekend days.

I'm now in the "normal" eating phase, so I can introduce any foods I choose to try. I have not gone wild at all. Each phase went fine (liquids, puree, soft) and basically I just followed the advice and documentation given to me by my surgeon, physical therapist, and dietician. I reached out to them if I had any questions, and all was good.

Most people have fairly good experiences afterward, of course there are those that fall in the 1-5% complications bucket, but they generally are able to get through those issues and have a good long term experience too. There are people with the entire spectrum of experiences on the forum, so you have many resources to reach out to. Definitely post questions on the various boards, it can be a great way to get some insight as you do your own research or in developing questions for your surgeon/dietician/physical therapist, etc.

Congrats! I’m also scheduled for surgery on 9/21!

I’m nervous but excited for this major life change. I know initially, it might be painful and challenging, but if I can eliminate or reduce my medications for type 2 diabetes and hypertension, get my PCOS under control, end the lower back pain, regain my self-confidence, become active, and feel better overall, it will be worth it.

Hi DCPANDA
I too am having all these feelings - my RNY surgery is scheduled for Sept 28 - 1 week after you
I want surgery and post op to be behind me - am worried about pain afterwards - but looking forward to getting rid of weight and health problems both current and future health problems - keep in touch I will be anxious to hear how you did
Best of luck to you

Your story sounds so very similar to mine. My first exploratory office visit was July 9th and currently I am waiting on the uber to take me for my surgery. I completely understand the "took so long but also flew by" situation. Also, I have also gone through this very privately. My partner and of all people, my hairstylist, are the only 2 non-medical people to know. I certainly hope you're healing well and on your way!
