Wow, it is getting real! I’m nervous because I had my gallbladder out in January and was in incredible pain the first day post op. I’m planning on using the liquid post op diet two weeks before the surgery (good idea?) and taking benefiber and colace to help with the gas pain after. Hit me with all your tips!!!

Hi & welcome. :) What an exciting time. I wasn't required to do a liquid diet pre-op, just low carb to get as much weight off as possible. But follow your Dr's recommendation.

My surgery went really well, not much pain except for the gas. Sounds like you already know that is an issue. The surgeon will be inflating you with air so there is room inside to work. The only real way to get this to dissipate after surgery is to walk around as much as you can. I was doing laps around the ward every couple hours that first night.

Please poke around the site. Just about every question you may have has probably been answered. :)

April 2! Good for you! My surgeon had me on clear liquids for two weeks pre-surgery to shrink my liver. Jello, broth, SF popsicles. Jello jigglers were great!

Walking and more walking helps with gas pain. Warm tea and heating pad helps but be careful not to put it to hot. I was on full liquid for 2 weeks pre- op and 3 weeks post op. I ate for the first time this past Sunday. I had what I call bariatric 3 layer dip. Whipped cottage, trader joe's salsa autentica and smooth guacamole. No chips allowed for the dip but it was heavenly to me after five week of liquids.

Walking as soon as possible helps I promise. I walked within the first hour of being in my room. And that was the only night I needed pain meds the whole time
