I am 13 days post-surgery (Sleeve) and it has been a struggle to get all of the protein in and the water, and I am lactose intolerant, which makes it even harder. Last week, I found a product that will help me a great deal… Gelatein Plus by ProSource is a premade Jell-O with 20 g of protein in each half cup. There are five flavors and can be found on Amazon. I buy the cherry and it is very good, but it gets a little sweet toward the bottom of the cup.
The other product I found was through reference in these forums… GENPRO medical grade protein powder, which is designed for bariatric patients and supposed to be OK for people who are lactose intolerant. It is more expensive than the other powders, but you only need half as much (1 Tbl) to get 30 g serving, so it actually becomes cheaper than the others. Reviews say it is tasteless and can be added to anything. Amazon has it for $37 per 30 servings, but you can find it cheaper on eBay. I just ordered some and will come back to add a review when I’ve had a chance to use it.
When you are ready for blended foods, Campbells makes a line of high protein soups called YES! 12 to 17 g protein in each 2 cup can. I just dump a can in my high-powered blender, along with a tablespoon of protein powder, and I have 4 half-cup meals ready to go. Good luck with your surgery. I remember how excited I was before mine, and how much I am looking forward to the future now.
