:) Hello, I am brand new to the site, just sign up moments ago. I am so excited for my gastric bypass tomorrow, typing that seems funny.
For the past 42 years I have has quite the love affair with food. I am anxious to reestablish my relationship with it, I feel like I should have signed a pre-nup LOL. Seriously though, I look forward to chatting and sharing with everyone and getting good tips and recipes (when that time comes). I wasn't sure where to start on here...this seemed like as good a place as any!

For those of you who have had it, what besides walking right off can anyone suggest for exercise? I can say I have never had a real love for exercise, but hope I can change that and get addicted to a healthy lifestyle rather than food.

Hope to hear from you!
thanks for having me in the club!

Hi Heather! WELCOME to the forum!!! Just relax and trust in your surgeon tomorrow that all will be great. I didn't have much pain at all after the surgery, hopefully you won't either. :) Follow your surgeon's advice on your post op menu, and drink your water faithfully. We are all here for you if you need to talk. Please keep us posted, GOOD LUCK TOMORROW!!!

Cheyenne :)

Welcome Heather, congrats on your up coming surgery. I will say a prayer for you. I had the Roux-en-Y in Oct of 2012 and I can tell you, it works. I went for months where I had to remind myself to eat. It's a great feeling. As for exercise, walking is your best bet until you are cleared by your surgeon to do more, usually 6 to 8 weeks post surgery. You want to be healed before straining those muscles. I started out walking and got to the point one day where I said, let's see how far I can run, I did three miles that day. I'm not a big gym guy either, so I look for things to do that are active. I scuba dive, learned last August, I run, walk, ride bikes and this summer i will be kayaking as well. Really looking forward to it. Being active will burn calories and is more fun, for me, than the gym, though I do have a membership and do use it, just not as my primary way of getting exercise.

Hi Heather and glad to meet you. While you're in the hospital you'll be encouraged to escort your IV pole through the halls of the hospital. This is to help prevent pneumonia and blood clots. It's very important you do this. Walking will also make you feel better and help you get the fluids you need to go home.

When I got fat I no longer wanted to exercise. But after surgery & I lost about 30 pounds; my body wanted to move more. I would actually dream about walking (which I have never liked doing) now I walk every day and some days several times a day. My dog is loving it and so am I. It doesn't make sense to me but this reaction seems to be very common. The first couple of weeks I walked to help reduce the gas, bloat, and nausea, but that was just around the house; I was that die-hard not gonna walk type. Bo's the bottom line is welcome to the club and be prepared to be surprised by something new about yourself you will discover as this adventure progresses. It's very exciting and fulfilling.

Hi, BeanQueen14. I'm new here too as of a few minutes ago. Just want to wish you best of everything and speedy recovery.

I agree with gr8k8. Once you shed a few pounds you'll be dying to move around and do all the things you couldn't do before. Some kind of exercise will appeal to you. Lots of people walk, then run. I like to walk the dog and I also go to the gym. I won't be running since I have artificial knees. But it is such a thrill to walk up a hill or a couple flights of stairs and not get winded. You'll do great!

I have bionic knees too. I like my comfy recumbent bike, it's very low impact on the joints and when I plug in my iPod I almost forget what I'm doing. Good luck today and best of health

Heather I hope everything has gone well for you I just had my surgery on the 7th so i dont have alot of advise but i can tell you it gets easier as you go you will walk at first but dont hurt yourself take it easy and learn to deal with all your new changes. Thats what im doing. Always ask questions everyone here are kind people that only want the best for you and success in weight loss. I have found we all have a lot of the same issues, so we can all help each other. My prayers will be with you.
James
