Vitamins Post Surgery?

I really like the Bariatric Advantage multi, but they are really pricey. I was using the patches for a while, but I developed an allergic skin reaction to the glue, so I had to stop. Those were THE most convenient - I'd put them on at night, and take them off when I woke up. Right now I take Centrum chewable multi, and I do several gummies - pre/probiotics, omegas, fiber.

That sounds like a question for your surgical care team. Each doctor/nutritionist would possibly give varied answers. My surgical care team - mainly my surgeon and nutritionist - have both said I could take vitamins in various forms: gummy, chewable, liquid, capsule. Some multi-vitamins you can take now only have to be taken once a day. I purchase a chewable 1 a day multi-vitamin with iron from the Nutrition shop in the Hospital where I had my surgery. I take 1 multi-vitamin with iron, 3 calcium citrate chewables, 1 B-12 sublingual daily.

Talk to your surgeon or nutritionist. They should know exactly what type of vitamins you need.

My dieticien told me to go with a liquid multi-vitamin. That helped a lot. She also suggested B-12 tablets that dissolved under the tongue.

Each of these are available just about anywhere.
Looking at the prices I'm guessing I'm going to have to just take what the VA offers me for the time being. My husband was let go 2 weeks ago and the timing just could not be worse financially. However, now he's here to go with me on appointments and such, so that's a bit of a blessing in this mess. :/

I wouldn't use gummy anything for at least a year after surgery because that is a very hard substance to digest.

All the all the vitamins I use are chewable or extremely water-soluble and I have tested them all in terms of how long it takes for them to break down in my saliva in order to determine if there are good supplements.

It's very difficult to avoid medicines or supplements that have an enteric coating, which is like having a layer of thick paint on your powdery pill inside. I always break those into small pieces before I eat them.

I explained it all here: Victory over Malabsorption

Did you get those containers at the dollar store? That's a really good idea instead of a pill box.

I got them at Uwajimaya, big local Japanese grocery and general store. I bought a different type right after surgery but when i went to get more, they didn't have them. I'm always looking for tiny containers with tight lids because I've been taking meds and supplements 3 or 4 times a day for many years and HATE opening pill bottles or chargers that need weekly refills. I sort my pills once a month. Very helpful when I need to refill Rxs. Right now I take between 30 and 35 pills every day, including probiotics and joint supps.
Do you swallow them whole? Can we take whole pills? Obviously you don't take them all at once, right? ((gulp)) I went to the Dollar Tree last week and saw they had a bunch of round and square containers. They looked like maybe 2 oz., maybe 4 oz.? My first thought was - oh how cool for beads, etc. but then I saw your vitamins and am thinking this would be a much better use!

You're surgical/dietary team should direct you appropriately. My plan through the North Shore University health system in Chicago advises chewable Calcium citrate (soft) NOT GUMMY, gummies don't break down well. the ones I take look like starburst but they're softer. I take those 3 times a day, and then 2 chewable Flintstones vitamins with Iron (yes, they recommend those), vitamin D and then one sublingual Vitamin B12 a week. it's really not much. I took calcium before, just not in that form and not three times a day. Same scenario with the multivitamins and vitamin D. I thought it would be a lot more, but I already took all of this in different forms...except for the vitamin B12, that's the only new one for me.
