Waiting for a surgery date

Hi
I was just cleared for surgery but of course with COVID need to see when that will be. Thing is...I am scared to death. Am I doing the right thing? I'm afraid of side effects like vitamin deficiency and dehydration. Also, is this the best forum site for support before and after surgery.

Hi podskysf ! I think everyone was probably scared of having surgery I know I was . But you will be ok . You can search some of the other peoples posts on this app and see their experience. As for vitamin deficiency if you take the vitamins you are told to take then you shouldn’t have a problem If you keep drinking water you’ll be ok too I know I went back to the hospital a couple of weeks after surgery for dehydration with an IV in me over night it wasn’t fun so if you can drink, drink, drink, after surgery .It can be difficult to do but you need to stay hydrated. What surgery are you having ? And to answer your question about this support group it’s great no one will judge you every one is pretty honest.

I haven’t had surgery yet. I am nervous, maybe I’ll be more scared when I have a surgery date, but what terrifies me is not having the surgery. I think of all the comorbid disease I am going to suffer through without the surgery, and it calms me down. As long as you follow the vitamin and hydration directions, you should be golden.

Congrats!! I got my insurance approval on Monday!!! I have my date (tentative) for 7/14. I am in Texas where they have allowed some elective procedures to happen. I am in the same boat...I am so excited and know I can do this, but all the what-ifs are coming out now. The quarantine and all the stress from the virus had me slipping into old bad habits. I think it is normal to feel uneasy! I have yet to find someone who regrets their decision to have surgery. Good luck to you and I hope you get a date soon!

How long between your clearance for surgery and your insurance approval was it?

I finished my pre-op weigh in 4/10, I was lucky and the restrictions were lifted 4/22, my nurse was awesome and was trying to get approval with a dummy date anyways just to try. my insurance is one that only takes like 2 days to give an authorization. I have aetna. I was wanting july timeframe anyways because of my work schedule.

Ok wow that was quick! Yea my surgeon said he would start gathering the paperwork and send it off to my insurance. I can be a bit inpatient when it comes to something I'm excited about and called my insurance company today and they did not receive any authorization information yet. I knew that was gonna be the answer but I still called LOL! And my need to know now has been a challenge in itself trying to stay patient LOL I have gotten so much better at it though. This whole experience has changed my life already and it just getting started :)
I do hope the insurance approves it and i know sooner rather than later lol
NY just is starting to allow elective procedures for our region, so that is a step forward :)

Oh believe me I am the same. I was an office nurse for several years before staying home with my daughter. I know what you have to do when submitting insurance and I know how long things should take. Makes it so much harder when you know things, I was super patient with the office but still needed to know some things. I am flying out my mom to help with my recovery. So I needed to book flights in a timely manner etc. luckily so far everything has worked out. So hopefully Hospitals are prepared for covid related things around me and it won’t make a hiccup for my date. We have been lucky so far, but our governor is opening things back up Friday. I just hope it’s not too much too quick.
