Hello,

I am hoping this is a group forum group to live and learn as I move forward into my new life post op gastric bypass surgery.

I had my operation on 11/4/2013.

I am 5 foot 11 1/2 inch man right now with weight pouring off. I started pre surgery at 288. By the time I was operated on I was around 272 on 11/4/2013.

Since then the weight is simply falling off. I am currently 259.4 and dropping.

I haven't thought about my goal weight yet. However, to get to a healthy BMI I should be about 175-185 range. We will worry about that later in 2014. Right now, I am feeling great.

My diabetes has effectively been normalized. I used to required 80-90 units of Novolog (fast insulin) per day to maintain an A1C at 5.9. Now, I have no need for insulin. My average blood sugar reading is at 110, which effectively represents an A1C around 5.5 or so.

My surgeon also found a huge hiatal hernia that I never knew about. It has been repaired and that has helped tremendously.

So, enough for now.

I will post to the forum at least 3 to 4 times a week if not more.

I find support forums excellent. I even maintain my forum connections at weightwatchers even though I do not follow the weightwatcher regimen anymore.

Welcome aboard Dancinbr.
Glad to hear all has and is going well. My surgery is in 7days and a wake up.
My surgery will be done at a Center of Excellence using the DaVinci robot as well.
I am a bit nervous; however, being here and reading about others experiences has helped quiet a bit.

Well I am wishing you good luck. It appears that you are ready. I backed away from this decision in 2009. However, this time I went through with it. Remember it is a tool and only a tool. You have to buy into the entire program both preop and postop. I will be going to my first post op group meeting this week. It will be such a thrill. I have met people who have been going to the support groups for over 10 years. They have had relapses but the support group got them all back on track.

Again, good luck.

You go to sleep and wake up and it is all over. Not a whole lot of pain and what pain does exist is managed quite well with pain killers. I needed to use percocets the first week I was home. But by the end of the week I had pretty much stopped using them and never needed them at the level they were prescribed.

Yes, my wife is being very supportive. She is helping me with great puree mixes. She is also dropping weight as well; albeit she is not doing it with bariatric.

My husband is the cook and grocery shopper in our family. He has already begun helping me and our family with "my (our) new lifestyle". It is great to have a strong support system, he wants to drop 10 lbs and is excited to get started.
Keep up the good work and give her a big hugg and kiss and please share some fabulous mixes, if she remembers them. my hubby has never made me the same smoothie twice-he just throws stuff in the Ninja and it is good ;)

She is starting to teach me how to do good purees. Also, I now have a formula for tuna salad with eggs.

I have learned how to make stock. I used the stock in week 1 and 2 as a clear liquid to consume.

Lots of good things. She is feeling a bit lonely about our eating habits. It has disrupted a sit down dinner together. I have sat down and watched. However, next week as I start solid foods again with "appetizer portions" as my main meal we can begin to enjoy dinner together again.

Soon, we are off to New Orleans ( our third time) for a week long vacation of relaxing, more touring and plenty of Cajun dancing.

I am mentally prepared as far as going to restaurants and ordering. Fish will be my main focus. I will ask for special preparations as I need to. I will focus on mostly grilled, low fat or no fat in the preparation. I may even try my first sip of wine; don't know about that yet.

Sounds like you've got a great plan and your progress has been great. My husband is a bit worried about going out to eat and have me sitting not eating while he does. I joke that it will be great cause he can eat while I do all the talking! Just as it should be. LOL :D
