December Surgeries

My surgery was 12/6/16. Thought maybe those of us with surgeries in December could become buddies and support one another through this life style change. Send me an email at chrisseese2@yahoo.com or leave a note here. Hope to hear from you.

Hello again, I am now 8 days post op and seem to be doing fine, I did end up with thrush in my mouth after surgery but have that mostly under control, the Dr gave me medicine for that, still just drinking the shakes and liquid, can't wait to eat an egg lol

Hi Tracy. Glad to hear you are doing fine except for the thrush. I have to admi those first two bites of egg were heaven. Now I'm tired of the soft food diet, but stuck on it until 1/23.

I go back to see Dr on Tuesday hoping he allows me to up it to soft food, my husband is trying to do his best not to eat to much in front of me, he wanted Chinese tonight, I kinda talked him out of it so he is stuck eating McDonald's lol, loving the smell of that

My husband and daughter have eaten whatever they want clear back to protein shake diet. Made it very difficult at times. Hope you are put on soft foods Tues. still not as good as full diet, but better than liquid diet for sure.

I also had gastric bypass, guess every hospital has different rules to follow
3 weeks is rough. When you start eating soft foods, just eat a couple of heaping tsp. One night I decided to finish off what was left of my tuna. Didn't want to waste anything. Big mistake. I was in terrible pain for about 20 minutes. Kept trying to throw it up, but it didn't work. From now on, any small portions left, that are too small for a meal, go in the trash.

My step up from shakes and jello is cottage cheese, eggs, egg substitute, and ricotta cheese, I love ricotta cheese in a calzone, never had it just plain lol

That's not bad for food choices. I eat them all, except ricotta. I also eat canned tuna and canned chicken. I mix with a little mayo for a little tuna or chicken salad.

I am stuck on this plus the shakes and liquids for two more weeks before I can eat tuna and canned chicken lol
It is amazing the difference in our requirements? When can you go to regular foods? Or what will be our regular. I can do it at week 7, but I have to see Dr and dietician before I can actually do it. Also, your weight loss must be incredible with being on the liquid diet. I'm averaging 1 lb per day. I'm going to start going to the mall and walk as it has been too cold and wet to walk outside and I'm not paying for yet another gym membership when all I use is the treadmill. Rather silly.

I tried taking a pic of my requirements but it didn't work, so this is a rundown of my guidelines the Dr is imposing on me, two weeks before and after surgery I can eat shakes, yogurt, cream soups and jello, next two weeks I can add the eggs, cottage cheese, and ricotta, then I add soft foods, like tuna, can chicken fish, shrimp, no fruits or vegetables, for a month, and then finally I can add fruit veggies and starches but I am suppose to eat everything else but the starch and if I have room I can eat the starch

So I have to wait 2 months before I eat regularly ugh

I have been told, I believe, that I can't have starches. If you can have real food in 2 months, you aren't far off from me. 2 months is 8 weeks and I'm 7 weeks. I'm just on the soft food diet for longer.

Starches are on my list but I'm only supposed to eat them if I have room after my protein, I really miss cheese right now, I didn't even eat much of it before all this, kinda like being pregnant and having cravings, crazy right
I have a friend who is starting her two weeks pre surgery liquids, I think her surgery is set for January 15, she is starting to freak out about the diet,. I feel her pain

I'll see an add on tv and start craving something. My big craving is for a Coca Cola. I have been off of it since mid Sept and was fine, but as soon as I couldn't have it, I REALLY wanted it. So cruel. Lol
