My daughter had a gallbladder infection post surgery and remained in hospital for a week post op. Went home, difficulty keeping down even sips of liquids but slowly improved a tiny bit (actually barely). Wound up last week with bloody urine (w/blood clots), back to ER. Another gallbladder infection with gall stones which was supposedly brought on by Ecoli again(?).
Was placed on fluids & antibiotics and went home 2 days ago. Today she’s got blood in her urine again. She called the hospital, spoke with observatory Dr. and she was told it's her body cleaning out from the infection.
Aside from the obvious pain she’s constantly in, I cannot help worrying and just wondering if others have unfortunately experienced this also.
Would appreciate any feedback.

Gallbladder issues can crop up after weight loss surgery. I am honestly surprised they haven't suggested removing it. Stones and infections are the main reasons for removal.

Call her bariatric surgeon. And do it quickly. ERs don't usually do much for gallbladder attacks, and they're not always as thorough as you might hope. They sent my husband home with a necrotic gallbladder. Fortunately his doctor saw the results and called him up. Scheduled removal the same week.

I had my gall bladder out and it wasn’t bad at all. I was getting a lot of abdominal pain and one night went to the ER. They scheduled me immediately for a laparoscopic gall bladder removal. The pain afterward was not that bad. I didn’t need any narcotics and made a full recovery.

they took my gallbladder out at the same time they did my RYGB surgery.

I had to get my gallbladder removed a while ago went to the ER was miss diagnosed with indigestion. Called my surgeon since I didn’t feel well and had to get emergency gallbladder surgery. If you haven’t talked to her bariatric surgeon I suggest you do so soon. If it’s a recurring problem probably best to get it removed. Post surgery blood clots are not good either home this gets figured out soon.

That's really a medical question none of us can answer. if you're having ANY kind of pain, call your doctor or go to initial care at the hospital. Pain is a mysterious thing, but it usually indicates a problem, and it's your body talking to you in an important way. SEE A DOCTOR.

I'm very sorry she is experiencing this after her surgery. I am sure the surgeon and his/her PA's would want to hear about this type of complication. Her bariatric team might be able to offer her a referral to a specialist that might be more suitable than receiving treatment in an ER.

I guess my answer was confusing, too quickly written. The first thing you do if you're experiencing pain after WLS is call your doctor or team that specializes in bariatrics. If you still have pain, seek another medical professional avenue. But what I was trying to convey is, don't base your decision on the experiences of people in this support group. In our group charter it clearly states we cannot give medical advice. But we can suggest you ask for medical advice from a professional.

I hope that's clearer. Pain should NEVER be ignored and seeking relief should never be delayed.
