Help

My name is Cory. I am 9 years post op. When I had surgery I was 400 pounds, I lost very quickly. Within 3 months I was down to 215, I leveled out at 215 for several years and then gained back up to 300 pounds. In the last year I have lost down to 128 pounds. This is not the result of any effort I have put in. I have actually tried to help my body gain weight. I have ordered meal plans and ordered special protein shakes and have added more supplements. I don't have any problems with diarrhea but I do feel like my body is eating my muscles to survive. I was just in the ER with a very low heart rate and heart palpitations. Heart rate was 43, cardiac enzymes are normal and so is my chest xrays. Anyone have any of these problems?

This sounds like a serious medical issue. I would strongly suggest you get yourself to your PCP and request extensive testing. This is assuming that your doctor is knowledgeable about Bariatric issues after all these years. If that is not the case, head back to your bariatric surgeon for a referral.

I have been to my surgeon and he just referred me to GI. There is another surgeon in the area so I'm going to reach out to him hoping that he can give me guidance. I'm also scheduled to see a cardiologist and once I am cleared by them I'm having scopes. When I go to the ER they just wait until my heart rate is at least 50 and send me home. Thank you for replying. Is there any other specialist I could be overlooking that I might need?

I have no idea, as I have no medical training. Which is why I suggested starting with your PCP or a general practitioner. They are usually the place to start and will know what steps to take. An ER is only going to treat the actual emergency. Good luck!
