Newbie with end of the road questions

my name is Shi. I have a few questions. My insurance required me to do 6 months of diet trials. I started my journey in May of this year and I have my final appointment on Tuesday. I also meet with my surgeon on Wednesday to sign my consent forms. I was told after my consent forms are signed, it's sent off for insurance approval. My questions are 1. After you signed your consent forms what was next? When did you get an appointment for pre-op? (after insurance approval or before) How long did you have to wait for surgery? I am so close but, getting anxious It has been a long 6 months! Any input would be great

When I had my surgery I didn't have the requirements you mention. My surgeon was a big proponent of bariatric surgery so he literally filled in a form letter with my name and sent it off to whatever insurance company I was using at a time. I had surgery something like 9 days later. Try to keep being patient. You've done a great job so far. It will happen soon and then you'll have a whole bunch more challenges, but you'll succeed.

Hi. I had to do 6 months as well. Insurance approval can take up to 6 weeks. I was scheduled fairly quickly after that. Then everything shut down for covid but I was like 3rd in line after everything opened back up. So I totally get the impatience you're feeling right now. You've done all the work. Now its just a short wait. Be proud and just patient a little while longer!

The surgeon's office will tell you next steps. Every schedule is different. I started pre-requisite dr visits last September. I was done with my pre-reqs April 1, they said they were submitting everything to insurance and it would take up to 4 weeks, I waited and didn't hear anything. When I followed up, they said she didn't submit bc waiting on a pre-req that had been misfiled, so now that I sorted that out, I had to wait another month. Then they had trouble with faxing my file, and I had to wait another month. Once I was approved sometime in late June, I pushed to be first in line because I was ready back in April and I think they honored it because it moved quickly from that point on. I had to sign consent forms, attend a Pre-op Nutrition & What to Expect Seminar where I got my surgery date and was told to start my 2 week liquid diet that day. My surgery was August 2. I don't regret anything. Even though the waiting for dumb reasons was stressful, I see now that it was for the best for unforeseen reasons. I PTL for caring for me when I didn't understand the why.

Thank you for responding! I have attended all of my classes ( Bypass and sleeve class, pre-op class, ect). I understand every step is different and every surgeon is different. I just wanted to know what to maybe expect next for the ones that have been through the process. My last step is to sign my consent forms ( Wednesday) i will definitely ask him when I see him on Wednesday I was just curious.

My Kaiser insurance has a program that lasts just over a year, then you have surgery.
