Stairs after surgery?

Did. You guys experience any issues going up/down stairs in the first two weeks after surgery. I just thought about this and wondered if I will be stuck upstairs for a bit.

You should be ok with stairs taken slowly. One trick I discovered with one of my c-sections - go up the stairs backward. I don't know why, but that takes some pressure off your stomach as you go up.

If you are having discomfort doing stairs, try taking each stair one at a time. Maybe that will put less strain on your body as you are healing.

I haven’t had the surgery yet…just thinking ahead

I had no issues. I actually stayed in the finished basement for my first few days home because I wanted to sleep in the recliner, but I had no problems when I went up and down the stairs. I did ask my surgeon just to make sure there were no stair restrictions, and there were not.

That’s interesting. I assumed laying flat would be more comfortable. I have an adjustable Tempurpedic bed. So sleeping at an angle was more comfortable for you?

It was more about getting back up, and the recliner helped with that. I had my gallbladder out at the same time though, so that added to my abdominal discomfort.

I have an adjustable hiking pole that I used when I hurt my back years ago. It was really useful for getting up from the sofa, getting out of bed, and going up the stairs. I will need to dig that thing out of the closet when I have my surgery!
