Testing question

Generally what tests are done pre op? A woman I know had a sleep study, and we have the same surgeon, but I don’t have issues with sleep. I can assume a full blood panel, even though I have 2 other drs who are also doing one within the next couple months. Is there generally a scope to check the stomach?

I had my surgery done at Erlanger in Chattanooga. My doctor required me to have a complete blood workup, stress test, upper GI, and a Physic evaluation. ..... At the end if which I asked the shrink, If I told him the reason I wanted this surgery was my life long deram was to star in senior porn movies, would disqualify my from the operation. He just laughed and said I certainly wasn't depressed, and passed me.

LOL ok that’s the best

At my first Dr's appt., I was given a checklist. It has on it a 5-step Preoperative Clearance list, that listed his requirements. It had Dietitian (Nutrition Counseling) and the initial visit was made then, A psychological clearance, gastroenterology clearance, pulmonary clearance and cardiologist clearance. The consulting physicians would examine you and order any test they needed. The only requirement was an endoscopy procedure was required. The Gastro Dr. preformed a colonoscopy in addition to the endoscope for his clearance and my cardiologist required a nuclear stress test for his clearance. Then I was given my Insurance Requirement Checklist. My Insurance Company (United Healthcare) required nutrition counseling for six consecutive months (1 visit per month) and Psych Clearance. They also required a BMI of above 40 or 35 with co-morbidites (Diabetes, Hypertension (w/meds). Sleep Apnea (moderate or severe) . If I completed all of the requirement, a tentative date of March 18, 2020 was given.
My Lung Dr. asked me many questions about my sleep patterns and said that because I didn't have any sleep problems, I didn't have to have a sleep Apnea test and passed me. My sixth nutrition visit is next week, at which time she'll go over the pre and post diets. I completed all of the requirements. I also was told after the first or second nutrition visit that because I was on Medicare (Primary) I was only required to go to 2 nutrition visits and could have the surgery earlier. I decided after careful thinking and personal reasons to stick with the original plan and date. That's what my Dr. and insurance requirements were. I hope this helps. I also attended the extra nutrition classes which are very helpful.

My doctor ordered a full blood panel, EKG, sonogram, and chest Xray along with the Psych eval. Also your bariatric surgeon should be able to give you a list of the blood panel requirements to give to your other doctors so you only have to do them once.. Good luck! But sounds like it's all different based on various doctors and insurance co's.
