Am I pushing the definition of "soft" food?

Hello all,

I am three weeks post-op and am working though what I can eat on a soft food diet. I am tolerating most everything very well, but I think that is tricking me to push the limits a bit. I feel fine after, but then I get paranoid that it will cause something horrible to happen. Example: I made my family a pot roast, I had about 2 oz of meat and a few bites of veggies. The meat was super tender, and I chewed in excess, I felt fine after no nausea just bloated, but I don't want to push it. Anyone had a similar experience?

My Doctor's plan actually had me eating soft foods on day 8. I waited a few more days on that one, and worked my way up to meats. My nutritionist did not give me meal plans just goals for my Macros, which I stay under daily and prioritize my Protein. I actually have a hard time getting close to my Carb and Fat goals, because I am never actually hungry. I plan my day's meals out on My Fitness Pal then make myself follow that daily plan.

My total goal is 70 pounds, at only 5ft tall it's more significant than it sounds. After 3 weeks I am down 18 lbs and on track according to my Dr. In about another week I should be ready to start more physical activity, bending down is still a tad uncomfortable.

I focused my approach going into this on a lifestyle change that was long term sustainable for me. I know if I try to change my diet too drastically and give up too much I will fail, my sister tried that and is really struggling years later. I pride myself on being a really good home cook, I have a large vegetable garden and use all my fresh veggies. You would be surprised on how cooking fresh at home differs from take out or canned/boxed food when it comes to nutrition.

My issues were that I would not eat all day and only eat dinner, many times I would be so starving that I would just pick something up or eat in extreme excess late at night. This is the bad habit I am trying to change. I eat small portions throughout the day focusing on protein, then I eat a small portion of homecooked dinner. My nutritionist was ok with this plan as long as I keep to my Macro guidelines. I still struggle to remember to eat during the day but I'm working on it.

Congrats on 110lbs, and thanks for reaching out.

Hey girl! I am now 7 weeks post op and I was the same way. I felt great and like it was too good to be true. I did end up pushing my limit when I reached solids. But I learn quickly, so it hasn’t happened since. I am already at my 3 month goal weight, so everything is still going well. This is a learning experience and we didn’t gain weight over night, and it isn’t going to come off over night. This is a whole new world for most of us so take lessons as they come and don’t be hard on yourself. Hope everything continues to go well for you!!!
