Pain after Gastric Sleeve

Hi. I’m in my 5th month of weight-loss progress notes with my primary. They say once that’s complete they will send my information off for insurance approval. I’ve already don’t my pre-op testing which was kinda of strange to me. I guess they want all the ducks in a row.

A little surgery history on me... I’ve had two c-sections, elbow ulnar nerve decompression, ablation, d&c, both feet operated on, and back surgery. After all of the surgeries I’ve had...I’m shocked I’m still scared of this one.

can some compare it to any of the surgeries I’ve had? I'm ready to get this waiting process over with.

Hi Brandy- you didn't say which surgery you planned on getting. I had the sleeve and had a pretty easy time with it. The incision sites were sore, naturally. My upper abdomen didn't feel bad, but it felt tender as well. I was very comfortable not wearing any waistline clothing for a week. I had to be careful bending over or lifting things as the doctor instructed. I was so limited in what I could eat or drink, I was consumed mentally to try and get nutrition in. More than anything, I felt exhausted for about 4 weeks. For me, it was all forgettable since with meeting my 100 pound weight loss goal after one year, I am very pleased.

Well I’ve had a few surgeries that you have had. 2 C-Sections, & 2 D&C’s. For me, this was much more painful initially. They pump you full of gas for the operation (so I’ve been told) so when you first wake up, it’s pretty painful. You have to walk and burp in order to get all the gas out. The pain gets better day by day. It does vary person to person though. A friend of mine said her post-op pain was minimal. What I thought was odd is that I’ve had laparoscopic surgery before when I had my gallbladder removed but somehow this was more uncomfortable for me..It’s all tolerable though. It also goes away very quickly. Good luck! You can do it.

Thank you for replying. This is a very hard decision and a scary one at that. With what’s going on with the covid-19 virus and all of my appointments being push back and surgery pushed out further. I’m starting to have doubts. Which I know that what the insurance companies want. I’ve got to hang in the just a little bit longer.

Yes it is easy to get discouraged. I was the last person at my clinic to have the surgery. The very next day all elective surgeries were cancelled. I understand the doubts. I felt like losing the weight for approval and keeping it off was so hard for me that I wanted to do it ASAP. It’s easy to get discouraged but just think about what’s best for you in the long run. It’s the best tool that forces you to live a healthier lifestyle. Whatever your motivation was to start the process...remember that during this waiting period.
