    first time and needing advice.

I would suggest using one of the online tools to track your calorie intake daily. That's an easy way to really monitor what you are eating, and find the places you need to make changes. Everyone panics when told to lose before surgery, so do the best you can. They won't cancel your surgery, but...

    first time and needing advice.

Hi sweetpea. I'm another happy vertical gastric sleeve patient. The only trouble I have had is if I eat too much or too fast. You don't want to do that. It hurts like an ice cream headache. I take Prilosec OTC as a preventative and occasionally rolaids for slight heartburn. I'm almost at 6...

If your surgeon had to stitch or cut through muscle, it might well be that kind of pain. I had it and it hung around long after the other pains got better.

    What do I do next???

Hi. Your fears are normal, but they are only fears. You should do fine. On the off-chance that you have problems, is your family so mad at you that no one would come to help? Probably they are not that cold-hearted. I live alone and had people to call if I needed anything, but I didn't need...

Also time saved grocery shopping! I used to spend $200 every week, and now I spend about $40 every TWO weeks. It doesn't take long to pick up $40 worth of food...

Missing my fat or Muscle Tone??

Ralph, You must not be addicted to carbs like some of are! I wouldn't go near a cookie or ice cream, much less a candy bar. One would just not be enough.

    what am I doing wrong?

scrapper, you might try rinsing your canned fruit. That's what my NUT told me to do when I couldn't eat fresh oranges, to eat canned mandarin oranges that are rinsed off.

    A little Confused

I don't know if I have felt hunger yet. I just eat at the recommended times in the recommended amounts. I feel slight pain when I eat something dense, like chicken breasts. It's not too uncomfortable, but it lets me know when to stop. If you've checked with the surgeon and everybody says your...

    what am I doing wrong?

How much of that Weight Watchers weight did you keep off? This is permanent weight loss and will come off slowly and surely if you follow your program. There's no malabsorption with the sleeve, so it takes a little longer. Welcome to the forum and be patient!

Welcome to the forum. I'm glad you found us. You say you don't have time to exercise. Really? You can't find 15 minutes twice a day to walk around your building at work, or go up and down some stairs? You say you don't have time to go to a support group? The one's in my area meet once a month...

    Support and suggestions

Sorry, I don't agree with your doctor's advice to your coworker. Not everybody likes the gym. If you do, great. If you don't, you'll be miserable. You need to find exercise that you will do--not exercise that will make you look for excuses to quit. Running, walking, working out at home on your...

I'm worried I'm eating too much HELP

I've had to stay away from smoothies at this point in the process. Every time I make one (and it sounds similar to what you make) I find that I consume too many carbs and calories for that day. It's a learning process. You need to find what works for you, and if it doesn't fit into the plan...

    Gall Stones

Luckily I knew my gallbladder was bad from previous unrelated xrays, and I knew that the gall bladder almost always goes bad from reading on this forum, so I asked my surgeon to take it out at the same time he did the WLS.

    Gaining weight before surgery

I agree with Cheyenne. You need to commit to your new eating habits, because they continue for LIFE if you plan to be successful. Good LUCK!

    Protein supplements & multivitamins

LauraLeigh, 60 grams of protein is what is recommended for females. There is no harm in getting more, unless you have kidney problems, then too much protein can be harmful. I get about 80 to 100 grams in daily and I take supplements to get that much. The shakes feel good on my stomach the first...

    Hello, I'm new here

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum. Don't beat yourself up about not being able to lose or maintain what you lost in the past. I think the medical community is finally starting to understand what we have understood all along---for morbidly obese people, dieting doesn't work. Or rather, it works about...

Cheyenne, My doctor prescribed it for me and I went home and read about it , and it was contraindicated for bypass patients. So I never took it.
