My surgeon told me that the sleeve has a higher incidence of gastric reflux, so he has me on Prilosec OTC 'for the rest of my life'. I have had a small amount of reflux in the morning before I get up, so I just put some TUMS on my bedside table and that helps.
Good luck and we'll be thinking about you tomorrow. Good thing you're not in the central part of the country. Sounds like we're getting really bad weather.
Welcome to the forum. I'm glad you found us. It's a wonderful group.
I have heard that many bypass patients have a problem with alcohol. Because the pylorus is gone, alcohol goes straight to your blood stream.
I think the Chinese should rename 2013 as the Year of the Knife. I too had a rough year--in the hospital 5 times, but hoping for a better and healthier 2014.
My doctor likes to limit carbs at this point in my post-op (3 months) and push more protein and vegetables. I like a little potatoes some times but don't miss the pasta or bread.
Happy New Year to all of us, and the other bari patients who will join us this year. I don't believe in NY resolutions, but may we all reach our goals and our non-scale victories!
I drink decaffeinated coffee and i find that liquids pass through pretty quickly. I sip some, get the dog food ready, sip some more, get my lunch ready, sip some more, etc. I'm also taking my daily pills at this time too which require liquids to swallow.
And there are lots of flavors of crystal...
I'm almost 3 months post-op and allowed to have 30-60 grams of carbs per day. I get them by eating fruit, not candy. BTW I don't think slowing your weight loss down at this point will slow the hair loss. Your body will adjust and the hair loss will stop and the hair will grow back.
You guys are counting the fluid in your protein drinks and any other fluids aren't you? I have 8 oz of crystal light with my miralax in the morning, 2 cups of decaf coffee, and 1 protein drink. That equals 35 oz before I eat breakfast. One more 20 oz crystal light or G2 and another protein drink...
Glad you had a good first day back to work. Planning food choices at work can be a little challenging, but I just bring my own and don't go out to lunch.
I wouldn't go near red meat right now, mostly because I couldn't digest it. But overall I feel like my diet is not bad and losing weight and exercising also is a plus for health. I do have an issue with artificial sweeteners and would rather use real sugar if a recipe calls for it than...
Please don't give up. it will happen. it sounds like you are doing everything right. I wonder why your doc wants you at 1000 cal/day? Most post-sleeves get in about 700-800 cal/day
It will become easier as you go on. But it all is very confusing at first. I found myself going back to my printed material again and again for confirmation of what I was supposed to be doing. It also helps if you keep only foods in the house that you can eat. If you have a family and that's not...
