Hello All!
I am 5 years and 6 months out from my gastric bypass surgery.
It has been a struggle and life changing.
I need motivation to get back into my exercise routine.
I have also been drinking too much red wine to cope with stress.
I have stopped drinking after developing ulcers. Has anyone else dealt with drinking?
I could use some positive support.

Hi Ann Marie!!! WELCOME to the forum! I am only a little over 6 months post op, so I really am not the person you need to talk to, but just wanted to say hello! You have done a wonderful job of losing a great deal of weight and keeping it off. I really admire you and how far you have come in your weight loss journey. :)

Hi Ann Marie I just had my surgery about 4 weeks ago, I can tell you what my nutritionist and psychologist both said that a lot of gbp patients turn their addictions to drinking or drugs instead of the food. Is there anyway you can start going to a support group? Also this site is a great source of information and supportive people.

Hi, and welcome.

Get to your doctor, your nutritionist and your psychologist. There are stresses clearly going on in your life that need to be addressed. Don't sabotage yourself. You are doing so well. Look at you a new person. You have been successful for 5 plus years.

Also, find that support group and go to it in your local area.

I love an occasional drink. But right now, I have avoided it for the most part. My "bar" drink is virgin cranberry juice :). I did add a single shot of vodka one time while vacationing in New Orleans last month. However, for the most part I find that I don't need it.

My wife has ulcers from nsaid meds prescribed to her. She has had 3 transfusions as a result of internal bleeding. She has stopped drinking. You can kill yourself you know with a total bleed out internally before you get help. All three transfusions my wife had were for 2 pints of blood; now that is a lot. She was weak, shortness of breath and at high risk for cardiac arrest.

So take care of yourself and find some supporters who are there for you in your community and work with them.

Address those stressors. I know about stress too as does so many of us. Work on it.

Best wishes,

Ralph

Welcome to the forum. I'm glad you found us. It's a wonderful group.
I have heard that many bypass patients have a problem with alcohol. Because the pylorus is gone, alcohol goes straight to your blood stream.
