Hi there! Welcome! The road to surgery can be long, that's for sure. I started in March of 2012, and had my RNY on 1/28/13. I got approved first time, but jumping through the hoops takes time. I had zero complications with surgery, and only minimal pain. There is a learning curve associated with...

5 months out, feeling great, but...vitamins???

Congrats on the weight loss! I am not sure of the exact numbers for vitamins, although I can look it up if needed (will look when I get home). I take the Bariatric Fusion vitamins. My surgeon recommended them. It's one tablet 4x a day. No need to add anything. It works good for me because I know...

    My surgery is over!

Congratulations, Laurieann! You made it to the other side! I hope everything continues to go well. Take your pain medication...do not try to be tough.

    Another Newbie

Welcome! It sounds like you had a bad day. Do you have any anti-nausea medication, and pain medication at home? I am a big fan of scheduled pain medication for the first few days to a week. Use that nausea medication too, if you have it. It can be scary as a new post op. Remember to keep...

    Surgery Thursday got a question

I agree protein is the key, especially when you are eating very low calories. I am almost 7 weeks out now, and still only have 400-500 calories per day. It's not that I feel full early, because I don't, but I try very hard to follow my Center's recommendations and eating guidelines, and this is...

    Six months after surgery

Hey there! I am doing great, thanks for asking! So far the whole process still seems surreal. I am down about 28 lbs in 6 weeks. My weight is not coming off as fast as I would have thought, but the inches are (I never realized how much until my pants fell down at the grocery, lol...I caught them...

    New at this

I think both procedures are safe, and have great benefits. Here are a couple of questions my surgeon asked me when I couldn't decide. Do you have GERD (acid reflux)? If you have moderate to severe reflux then RNY is better, as there is more reflux with the sleeve. Do you take NSAIDs on a regular...

First time to post soooo....Hello everyone!

Welcome! It's good to have someone new join the ranks. You are about to embark on the journey of a lifetime! My biggest recommendation at this point for you is to just do what the doctor, and RD tell you. We are here too!

    New Here

Welcome! I'm sorry your husband isn't more supportive of you. It sounds like his objections are not completely accurate. Your surgery is a tool to help you eat less. Yes, there will be food restrictions in the beginning while you are healing, but eventually you will be able to eat almost...

New here, so glad to find you all!

Welcome! Having this surgery will be like starting a new life. Just do what the doctor and RD tell you, and you will be fine.

Welcome! We had surgery on the same day! As someone has already said, you absolutely do have hope that you will get off your insulin! Keep up the good work!

Weight Loss Plateau... by week 3???

Stalls are normal, and are part of the process. You can only shock your body so much before it has to re-group. I put the scales away, and only look once every week or so. Even if the numbers aren't changing on the scale, my clothes sizes are, lol. You have lost a ton of weight for someone who...

    Just joined this forum

Welcome, Dawn! Your story sounds similar to mine. If I only had 1/2 of what I had spent on diets, clothes, etc... I am 4 weeks post-op tomorrow, and I can tell you there is always something to learn. I am still trying to get it down. As you have probably read, there are what I feel are...

    1st Full Day Home!

I was sent home with an abdominal binder, which helped. The getting up and down was what was hard for me - especially getting in an out of bed. Don't forget to take your pain meds as needed. It does get better each day.

    New with GEHA insurance

I used my sleep study results from a few years ago when I had looked into surgery. That saved me quite a bit in out-of-pocket expense.

    Got my surgery date!!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! I guess the best advice I can give at this stage (2 1/2 weeks post-op) is to only worry about your fluids during the first couple of weeks, and don't stress the protein - just do what you can. This is what my surgeon told me, but I see on other forums...

    Needing Support :o)

Welcome to the group! It's nice to have a surgery veteran added to the ranks. Looking at your stats I see you have lost around 200 lbs. - that is amazing!I don't know anything about the plastic surgery (I am only 2 1/2 weeks post -op), but I'm sure that where there is a will, there is a way.

    supportive and new.

Welcome, Thomas! I think it is wonderful that you are doing this in support of another. I'm glad you are able to see that in spite of the occasional problem, that we are all happy with our decision to have the surgery.
