I am currently researching both of my surgical options on the internet. I have several calls even to doctors out of state. My surgeon seems to think he can do it if my insurance allows it, but i do not feel too confident about this. With the open repair, i go through all the pain and suffering of the original weight loss surgery, but without the benefit because it will not repair the over dialated intestinal out. So i am reluctant to go through all of it but just cannot stand to feel sick anymore. I have been sick and depressed from feeling sick all the time for going on 2 years. They believe from the pictures that i have had this fistula for a long time. In fact when i had the scope done, that doctor had said she had never seen anything like it. My suppose to be old stomach was full functioning as if i had never had the surgery. i guess i am just looking to find out if other are going through this and if so are they confident enough in their surgeon to allow them to repair it. Another problem i have is that i am 11 post so all the original sugeons are gone, just one nurse is still there. The surgeon that wants to do the surgery had just joined the bariatric center right before i was release...and he released me with good health. Within a week later i was in the plastic surgeons office and he told me a had a large hernia and asked who was repairing it. Of course that was 1o years ago and i am sure he is much better now...i just don't get the warm and fuzzy from him. Revisions are high risk and you really want to feel like your surgeon cares if you live or die and have success...i do not not feel that way with this surgeon. His statements like "we will try this first but don't count on it being permanent" scares me. I am 43 years old and fairly healthy except the issues i have had from the RNY. If anyone has a really great surgeon or group they went to that does or may be doing this type of repair, please let me know.
