Alcohol problems

Eight years after surgery I realized I had an
Alcohol problem. I did not drink until after
Gastric bypass in 2002. I have read
About addiction transfer.

I hope doctors are educating patients
About this today. I wish I had been
Warned.

I have been sober for 7 months
And am a member of Alcohol
Anonamous

Congrads on your 7 months of sobriety. I was raised in a disfunctional family and they all had alcohol issues. I learned all about addiction transfer. I didn't go that route because I knew it would only make things worse. I had a few trips to the psch ward. They should have educated you about it. We are not alone in our suffering any more. I an hoping this group will help.

I was an alcoholic before but on New Years eve I drank (sipped) for hours and realized that I couldn't stop myself. I have been sober since January 1. I realize that even though I didn't drink every day I couldn't stop once I started and for us that's dangerous. Glad you are sober.

The subject of alcohol transfer came up in the literature they gave me. They said that surgery patients metabolize alcohol much more quickly and differently than others. People who used to be able to drink alot can't handle it after surgery. Alcoholism was listed as a side effect on the hospital release form I signed.
