Are you a caregiver?

There are many reasons, many dynamics involved with someone becoming obese. We can't possibly address them all here.

I would like to look at one aspect. The subject has come up repeatedly over the last several days.

Are you a caregiver?

Caregivers, those who "take care" of others are a disproportionately high percentage of the morbidly obese population. There seems to be a correlation between caring for another and not taking good care of one's self. It's almost as though each of us has a finite amount of "taking care" of someone "energy" available. And if we use it on someone else, there isn't enough left for us.

In the broadest sense, a caregiver is:

any woman with children
any member of the healing arts
service people, like firefighters and police
teachers
any adult who has taken on the care of other adult family members (like siblings or parents)

This list is by no means definitive. Feel free to add to it.

How many of us here on this Forum are caregivers?

If you add yourself, please change the count.

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

I am a caregiver.

That's 1.

Qaterra-Yes ma'am, I too am a caregiver. My husband and I extended our household 7 years ago to his mother and brother who had a Brain Trauma and the age of 5 and then struck with MS approx 7 1/2 yrs ago. It was too much for his mother to handle alone and way too difficult for us to run two households. It has been a very difficult situation but we know that God only gives us what we can handle.

I do agree that I exhaust my self on making sure everyone around me is okay and leaving myself last and there is nothing left at the end of the day, that's why my Blog name is "Time 4 me". I finally get it!!! It is necessary to put myself first and get healthy (physically and mentally) to be able to continue juggling everything.

I am a caregiver....that's 2!!

Yes, I'm 3

I take care of our 2 year old granddaughter five days a week. As I mentioned in another post I pick her up in the morning (90 minute roundtrip) watch her all day then take her back home (another 90 minute rountrip). But I wouldn't have it any other way. We enjoy each other so much, but I will enjoy her so much more once I have a healthy plan. My surgery is a tool and with exercise along with eating healthy I will be successful, plus our granddaughter will see how important it is to live healthy.

I totally agree with Time 4 me. I have a dear friend that told me.... "It is time to give to yourself Laurie (that's me) as you have given to so many others".

Us caregivers need to learn how to receive as well as give. Number 3
