Bariatric Portion Control Plates?

Hey guys! Did any of you buy these to help with portion control after surgery? I was wondering what size is a good diameter of plate because I am definitely interested in these but don't want to buy the ones with food and writing all over them - I want a plain divided plate haha. Found some on Etsy that are way cheaper but they are 9 1/4" diameter and wanted to see if that would be alright. Porcelain Portion Plate | Etsy
If you DID buy a plate - would you let me know how it works and how you like it? Is it worth it?
 
I don't use a portion plate, but I was given one. It is probably about 9" Ø with the rim and such.
A kids divider plate would work too, and no words. Or use a saucer plate rather than a dinner plate. I just use my normal paper plated but I measure everything so I know I am using portion control.

yeah i've heard measuring is a must - especially considering I have no idea what a proper portion is at alllllllllll haha.
 
I did not like the divided plates. They did not work for me. I had the written ones that show portion size. Instead, I had to measure everything that went into my mouth for the first year. I still randomly measure because I might think I'm grabbing an ounce of almonds but it's ALWAYS 1.2. To put that in perspective, it's 20% extra. If I did that with everything, I'm going to gain everything back eventually.

I use salad size plates. I bought my husband toddler plates to start. But I would actually suggest getting small size storage containers and prepping everything. I still buy 1/2 cup storage containers and use them for prep. I keep 1oz almonds in cups in the counter. I keep 1/2C servings of yogurt, pudding, cottage cheese in fridge. I just prep it all after I shop so it's ready for the week.

wow that's a great idea! I have heard aLOT about meal prep and that's something i've never ever been good at. I'm a mom of 4 and just planning dinner in advance is a win haha. I'm going to have to look into doing that! I did buy some 4 oz containers that i'm excited to use when it's time but that's it so far.

I know meal prep sounds like so much work, especially when you're busy. But it ends up saving you time in the long run, because you have everything out at once. Imagine pulling out the scale and weighing every snack individually. THAT is work lol The 4oz containers are heaven sent lol

good point! Plus you can kick the temptation of getting more before it even strikes - that's a great idea.

I put on COVID weight and couldn't seem to get it off. So I went right back to weighing and measuring. I've lost 13 of the 20 pounds I need to.

Weighing and measure are critical to success. And using small plates and utensils help keep your portion size visually easy to follow.

wow that's great advice! Okay =- I will definitely make sure I have all my weighing and measuring things good to go! Do you even go as far as to have the premeasured bariatric serving utensils or do you mainly use a scale and then measuring cups?
 
I found a set of pillow fort kids divided plates and trays on Target online. They’re $3ish for a pack of five (I think it’s five). They’re a 7” diameter plate divided in three sections. Based on the photo there are six of them in the pack.

I bought the ikea kids plates and bowls. I am good about measuring out my stuff and then transfer it there. I tend to take to big of bites so I found these really cute forks and spoons at home goods that I'm using and they are working well. I do meal prep and because I live alone I freeze a lot and take out on Sunday for the week.
