Chest/Back Pain, Burning

Hello! I am new and this is my first post. I am 20 days post-op and have been struggling physically and emotionally. I'm still very weak in doing regular things, like taking a shower. I'm pretty sure it's a result of just not getting enough nutrition, despite following my vitamin rules. I am having a hard time getting protein as well because I can no longer stomach the shakes that I loved pre-op. I'm in the process of getting protein water, but our weather in Indiana is making that a little tough.

Last night I began having was resembled horrible heart burn. I do take prescription prilosec daily. I just have the constant burning in my chest and everything I eat or drink makes it hurt worse. I'm even feeling some "pressure" between my should blades. It doesn't matter if the liquid is warm or cold. My bariatric center is closed till after the first of the year and the on call people haven't called me back yet.

I've had several days since I got out of the hospital that I've just cried and at times wished I didn't have the surgery. I'm hope that each day I get better but I don't seem to be.

Anyone else gone through this? Is this "normal"?

Hi Lovemybirds. What you describe is certainly not normal. You need to see a doctor ASAP, if the Bariatric center won't respond, then go to your GP or the emergency room if the pain continues. You need to find out what it is and the sooner the better. I'm praying that it is nothing and it probably is nothing serious, but please let a Doctor tell you that and not just me. Please let us know what you find out.

thanks for your reply. I did speak with the on call people who told me to stop all dairy and get some gaviscon to take through the night and followup with them in the morning. i'm still burning pretty good, so i will definitely be calling them in the morning.

Got some new liquid medicine to coat the esophagus and stomach and it's helping. the pressure has lessened. new development today is i'm throwing up just about everything - something i haven't done since i was in the hospital. i'm more weak than ever. i believe at a minimum i'll be going to the ER for fluids. so tired of this and just can't help but continuning to wish i would have never done this

Hey Lovemybirds, Sorry to hear that you're still having issues. I am praying for you. There are plenty of stories of people on here who've had problems immediately after surgery, some severe, who eventually got past them and are now glad they had the surgery. I'm sure that you will get past this and come to realize that WLS was the smartest thing you've done. Keep your chin up and know that we are here if you need us.
