Cure for 'starvation mode"...??

Hi,
I have been experiencing what I believe is "starvation mode" (from reading the other threads). Tired of course but freezing to the point of shaking. Doesn't happen all the time though. My question is...."Is this my body telling me I need calories?" (I just had my 1 week post-op visit yesterday. The 2 week goal was for me to reach 500 calories a day on the liquid diet. I'm not reaching that but MD told me don't worry about it, don't force it, etc. I'm probaly getting around 300-350 depending on the day.) I don't want to "find excuses" to eat/drink. If it's just something I have to tough out...can do. Thanks for any advice.

I told my husband that when i had my surgery that they turn off my heat and turned on the air. I have always been hot natured so i know what you mean by being cold. For me its just one more thing that changed. But I like it. I havent wore a sweatshirt in years.

I'm not sure what causes it but I get cold most of the time too since I had my surgery. My bed has flannel sheets, a thermal blanket plus a down feather quilt even in the summer *LOL* Plus I have to wear sweat pants and a long sleeve thermal shirt or I get cold. Last fall and winter I set my thermostat at 68 but now it's at 74 and could be warmer most days. I told the surgeon and he said it's normal to feel cold. I told my PCP and she ran additional blood testing but everything came back OK. I don't think it's anything to worry about and as far as I'm concerned it sure beats all the sweating I used to do all the time :) :) :)

Makes you wonder if the hormones they are cutting out with the stomach has to do with regulation of sensation of heat and cold. Are you cooler in the summer? That could be an advantage!

I was much more comfortable this past summer than I ever have been in my life. This summer we had exceptionally hot weather very early here in southeast Michigan. I was able to work in my yard without feeling like I was about to boil and sweat to death. I did nothinng special except to wear plenty of suscreen, a hat and sunglasses. I also made sure to take plenty of water outside with me so I wouldn't get dehydrated. The last time I felt as comfortable was when I was in high school in the early 70's.

Mergatroid-I've thought about moving to Hawaii but the housing is too high for me. I am looking to move once I have hip surgery and recover. I'll probably go someplace much warmer or at least someplace without a lot of snow and ice.

I have been told that the cold feeling is due to hormonal changes. We store many hormones in our fat cells so when we lose weight and don't have all the insulation like we did before we tend to feel the cold more and the heat less.

just sharing what have been told and what I found out from reading and researching on the WEB.
