Going on a Cruise

Hi All, I'm 2 weeks out of surgery (RNY) and thankfully doing great. No complications and down almost 30lbs. My situation: I'm booked for a 5 day family cruise in 2 months (Oct 28). I should be on the solid food stage by then and will have my family support system with me to control any overeating or bad eating. I'm planning on eating eggs, fish, soups, soft meats and veggies. I also plan on hitting the fitness center every day.

Questions:

1. Has anyone done a cruise post-op? Any tips or advice?
2. I'll be 2 1/2 months out of surgery. Will I be past the danger point for medical complications? I don't want to have to get airlifted off the boat.

Thanks,

Mike

I too am doing a cruise in October. Didn't know if I'll still need protein drinks then but I am considering taking along something in single sized envelopes instead of my big container of protein powder. Food should not be a problem. Besides having decent selections on the menu, you can always chat with the maître d' and tell him what you want/need and usually with a day's notice it can be arranged.

I tried on my tux for the cruise. I'm still over a month away from the cruise and the tux fits perfectly and the last time I tried to wear it I couldn't get the trousers on and this is less than 3 weeks after surgery.

Cruise went great...only threw up once. Too much liquid and solid at the same time. I hit the gym 4 times and I came home down 5 pounds. I drank some wine and beer, and didn't have any bad reactions. Food was easy because of the variety of liquid/soft/semi-soft/solid items. I usually started with a soup, then a bite of an appetizer, and then a bite of fish, beef, or chicken. Didn't feel deprived because I got to taste a variety of things. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who don't dump, I even tried a bite of cheesecake....

...since the cruise and a Thanksgiving week family vacation, I'm down another 15. I'm almost at the 80lb mark 4 months out....feels great. Full steam ahead in the new year!
