Hi there!

My name is Carina. I am excited to be started on this road. I'm still a little reserved with my excitement though because I don't know if I'll qualify.

I am 5'1" and 270.
The thing is that I don't have any co-morbidities. I'm not diabetic, no high blood pressure or illnesses. I'm uncomfortable. Unable to keep up with my kids, I have skin issues from being so big. I am fatigued almost always and fast. I have a slight depression/anxiety problem. I have good coping techniques but I know that being healthier would take this problem away too. I don't know if they'll reject me.

I do have the history of using gyms, weight loss programs, clinical and non. etc So no problem that I've shown I've tried everything.

So, has anyone in my position qualified?

I did an orientation and I'm seeing the Dr for my first consultation the first week of May!

Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to "meeting" you!

Welcome.
I didn't have any health issues when I started my program. I had reached 330 lbs (at 5 ft 4) and had almost zero energy and new that if I didn't do something soon it was a matter of time. It took me from February to June to work the program, get approved and have surgery. I am now at 184lbs and have zero regrets. I feel like I should mention it took 3 surgeons and 2 hospitals to find my perfect team. I will not go into those details but what I can say is don't take no for an answer seek knowledge and stay positive. If you don't give up it will happen.

Best of luck

I like you had no medical problems but they did say I had sleep apnea as most obese people seem to have and that plus my bmi made me eligible for the surgery. hope all goes well with you. I had the surgery in November down 55 lbs and don't regret it, it changed my life. I am probably much older than you but I can breathe better, have much more energy can play with my grandkids and feel great, I still have another 50-60 lbs to go but I am on my way.

Your BMI is 51 !!!

You qualify.

And yes, this is a health issue. I am happy that your morbid obesity has NOT created any other maladies to date.

I am delighted that you have decided to turn this around and do so now.

Congratulations.

Come and visit often.

Hi Carina,

WELCOME to the Forum!!! You will qualify, as Ralph said, they definitely look at your BMI. Also most insurances will allow surgery if you are 100 lb. overweight.

Good Luck to you. :)

Thanks so much for stopping buy and your responses. I already feel so much better about going in. I don't like being rejected! lol (who does?!?)
I'm thankful that I don't have other problems, but I know if I keep up the yoyo dieting that I WILL have those problems. I don't want to have to fight more than I already do for my health.

Thanks for the warm welcome to the forums. See you around again soon. :)

Carina

Your BMI will qualify you. Comorbidities are only required if your BMI is at least 35 but less than 40. Plus, I think depression and fatigue might be considered comorbidities. Also if you have had any skin ulcers or infections from the skin rashes, that would probably count.

Hello Linda, congrats on your weight loss so far, you are doing great. I'm just the opposite of you....the extra skin under my arms makes me look like a bat getting ready for takeoff. LOL. I still have 45 or so more pounds to loose and will consider having skin removal surgery if warranted. Welcome to the group and keep up the good work.

Hi Linda. Congrats on getting off your diabetic meds. That's a big step. I'm having bypass done on Dec 6. Not looking forward to the loose skin. My insurance won't pay for it and I can't afford it. I hope you are able to get it done.

I'm having bypass on Dec 6. No medical problems, but my BMI was 51 when I first started this journey of having the surgery happen. I've lost 22 lbs since then. Not sure what my BMI is now. You will have no problems getting approved.
