Hi! My name is Katie, or Kat. I am a 52-year-old wife and mother of 3 (ages 23, 21, and 3). I recently had Laparoscopic Robotic Sleeve Gastrectomy on Halloween of this year, (10/31/2024). I am here because, as you know, much of this is a mental game and right now I am failing miserably. Looking for support from those who understand what I am feeling and going through and not find company in my misery, but company and understanding in the struggle and successes.

Hi Kat, welcome to your group. So it hasn't been very long since you had surgery, but you already feel like you're failing somehow? Can you be more specific?

The surgery is only a tool. The disease of compulsive overeating remains. That would be the "mental game" you're fighting, I assume. Please say more about how you're feeling. This is a safe place where no one will mock you or shame you for not being perfect. If you're still somehow overeating after having your stomach reduced to a sleeve, you should really talk to your medical team about it. It's not unusual, but if you are able to eat enough to gain or stall, that's something that needs attention. There could be dangerous medical complications.

I'd like to say more, but I don't know exactly what you're struggling with. If you could give us more specific details, I'm pretty sure more people from the group would love to offer you more support. You're safe here and you're sharing freely. However, we can't tell if you're really failing or if you're just beating up on yourself for not reaching some goal you've set. This disease wants to conquer all your ambitions, and it will even lie to you about your success in order to stay in charge.

I hope you'll write again and give us some details, so we can support you more.
