I'm a Brand-New Pre-Op

Hello Everyone!
I am a pre-op with very little time left! I have one last test on Wednesday this week, which is assumed to be completely trouble-free. After that, I get called for my surgery date. I have been passed through all doctors and taken all required classes. It has been almost one year since I began. I am very excited about it, since weight has been an issue my entire life, even before puberty. I have been experiencing a LOT of health issues, and most recently was diagnosed with Diabetes, after being pre-Diabetic for nearly two years. I am only on medicine, which should be alleviated by the surgery quite quickly. I tried every way possible to lose; including 4 days a week of intense swimming classes and a 1500 calorie diet for the year before this journey. It caused an 8lb GAIN. After a litany of tests, 5 doctors and 2 nutritionists advised me to consult a WLS surgeon. I was an easy candidate, and with all of the tests and trials I'd already attempted, passed through a few doctors quite easily. My biggest hang-up was a mid-year insurance shift. Now, I am so close I can taste it! I will really rely on these forums, I'm certain, as I do with the great group I joined on Facebook. I have some support; including my boyfriend and his mother, who is 2 years post-op for Gastric Bypass. My own mother feels that there are "other ways", and that I should try every single one first. She is against it. And I just cannot try anymore of the medications, diets or restrictions - I have tried so many!
The changes I have made already have helped: lots more protein, tracking my water/fluid intake, and eating more often during the day. I am 19lbs down and maintaining.
I hope to meet some great people and get some good support in here, especially with the million questions I know I'll have!

Greetings and Welcome!

Your surgery will come soon enough. Hang in there. Don't get a bunch of any one protein powder/drink as after surgery you may not like some and would be stuck with it. I have found some of mine tasting sweeter after the surgery, so I diluted it with skim milk to lower the sweetness and keep the protein value. Your main thing after surgery when you get home is to get the fluids in to keep from getting dehydrated. That will all be given to you in packets before and after your surgery.

You will do fine!!

Carol
