Well i finally got the phone call to say ,... my insurance will pay for the surgery ! whooo hoooo ! i go on nov 1st to begin the process of getting paperwork done, and i guess diet and exercise consultants? not sure how the whole thing works yet? so any information on what is next would like to know what to expect.... thanks ;) HAPPY IN SC

Have you had any tests at all yet? Every insurance company asks for a different criteria to be approved to have the surgery. My insurance said I had to have 6 months of supervised weight visits to my primary care doctor, A psychological evaluation, plus numerous blood test and tests and reports from my cardiologist and pulmonary doctors. I found the most wonderful bariatric doctor who has done over 2000 of these operations and never lost a patient. I did well and couldnt be happier. Getting a great doctor is the key to it all in my opinion. Good Luck!!!

Oh good, congratulations!! I'm just a few steps ahead of you with starting the process! After having my call to say insurance approved starting process, they set up date to meet with surgeon about 3 weeks later. I met with him and after I gave the green light of interest and willingness, he took me to the program coordinator who tells me everything that insurance and surgeon requires. Then I was sent over to a schedule lady who sets up all the dates to see dietician, nutritionist, exercise physiologist, and support group. I had to call psychiatrist and pulmonary to set up dates and blood work, ekg, and urine test can be done walking in with no appointment needed. Like Cheyenne said, all insurances and surgeons require different specifics in a certain amount of time. Mine is a 12 week requirement then when I'm finished it all, it all gets submitted to the insurance again and wait for final approval for definite surgery date.
Good luck and let us all know how you're doing along your journey! We're all here for you!~

My insurance company required everything to be completed before they would approve. After that, it was a half day with the dietician (group meeting) and pre-op labs, and meet with the nurse prac.

thanks for responces, looks like i have alot yet to do,... so nov 1st i'll know ,what that will be...i hope i don't get discouraged by having to wait so long. i don't mind all the test and all, just the waiting will drive me crazy. i'm the type when i want something ,i want it like, yesterday.
i def will keep everyone up to date on what they tell me, i have this fear it's going to be a long haul until i get that surgery date. wish me luck.. hugs to all y'all :)

Use the time to educate yourself by reading books and talking to people. I have learned so much since I started this process.

Congrats.

Ask how many weight management visits you will need, nutrition class, psych eval, cardiologist clearance ect. Just make sure you know exactly and precisely what is needed by your insurance to get the ultimate approval.

My insurance preliminarily approved but I have to go through an approval process again after I finish all the steps 6 months of weight management, psych eval, nutrition class, sleep study and cardiologist clearance which I just have one more weight management visit this month.
