I am 2 weeks out of surgery and eating mushy foods. Does anyone else have horrible feeling while eating? When I eat my stomach feels icky and I can feel my food in my throat. I do get hungry, but I am scared to eat because of this feeling. I don't think I am full because it is after 2 or three bites. does anyone know what I talking about?

JL, this could be because you are either taking too large bites of food or eating too fast. If you are using utensils you used before surgery, try using a smaller fork or spoon. Also, put down your utensils after putting the food in your mouth, then wait about 60 seconds before picking up the utensil for your next bite. This will slow down how fast you eat and may help.

Hi JL, it sounds a lot like dumping syndrome but I don't know a lot about the sleeve, FKRebs had some good advice, we are told to chew our food up real well and it should take 20 to 40 minutes to eat a meal. Hope Rebs advice helps. Tom

Hi,
I had the sleeve also. Had the same "icky" feeling when I first started soft foods. It does get better but at times I still experience it. Like fkrebs said it's usually comes from eating too fast. I also had problems with denser soft foods, such as a baked potato. I did better with instant mashed potatoes because I could make them as watery as I wanted. Chewing each bite a lot (the 26 times you've probably heard about) helped as well.
Good luck and hang in there!

The chew chew chew and sip sip sip philosophy has always worked for me. I just have a lap band but I hve to be very careful of that icky feeling too. Sometimes I forget and then I pay for it.
