Met with ish surgeon number 1

Hello all,

As for many of you I’ve started to embark on surgical options to provide optimal treatment for my staggering weight issues.

Today I met with a surgeon and we explored 3 options. We’ve decided I’ll work toward a dual surgery option. Therefore I will get referred to another surgeon who does the dual surgery options. I’m excited but nervous. I’m a little discouraged by the scale only rising upward today but I’m still lower than my highest weight. So let there be some light in a tunnel somewhere.

Which surgery did you have? Has anyone had or going to have the dual surgery? We are looking at 6 months to. 1yr in time like then another 1.5 to 2 years before we discuss skin removal. Which I found out is covered by my insurance thankfully!

That's fantastic the insurance covers the skin removal! Can I ask how it got covered?

I had gastric bypass. I liked that it was the longest one around and my surgeon and I felt it was my best fit.
We aren’t sure if it’s covered fully but the doctor made it sound like it might be if medically necessary. My doctor said lots of people go with bypass cause it’s the longest one around but more people are selecting the dual surgery because it’s weeps the most benefit for people at my bmi.

What's "dual surgery?"

I've never heard of skin removal being covered by insurance unless your thighs are sagging down below your knees. Can you say more about your coverage? I'd like to get rid of my stomach shelf and have a panniculectomy. These things really showed up AFTER having RYGB.

On the other hand, I think at my age it would be nearly impossible to be approved for skin removal, or any surgery that could be interpreted as cosmetic.

My surgeon said it might be covered I have medical conditions that might allow it to be covered. You’d have to ask your insurance company about it. I have intertrigo which is caused by skin folds. So it might be covered in my case if I have excess skin from surgery.

I’m not sure if insurance covered it or not. I should have been more clear. I apologize
