Hi, I was just approved for sx and am trying to schedule. I have a cruise planned and could have sx 7 weeks befor for rny gastric bypass....for those that have had sx, is this enough recovery to go on a
Alaska cruise or should I wait till after cruise to schedule surgey?

:) I know the opinion of someone who has not had surgery yet may not hold much weight, but speaking as a nurse I personally think you should wait till after the cruise. That way you can enjoy the cruise to its fullest as well as not have to worry about if you have had enough time to recover. Either way I wish you lots of luck and hope the cruise is wonderful ....... :)

Hi tripodmaster i agree with kristin i would go on my cruise and have fun and then have the surgery, but i would first ask the surgeon's office how much longer you will have to wait before you get put back on waiting list for surgery. Might be months, i have heard the alaska cruise is beautiful and there's always alot of food choices. No matter what you deceide it takes longer than 7 weeks for most to heal from surgery and get there strength back. Let us know what you deciede.

I guess I'm just a rabble rouser, because I would have the surgery and then go on the cruise. I was fine at 7 weeks to do that. However, everyone is different and what worked for me, may not work for you. The best advice is to talk to your Dr.
