New and Waiting

Hello Everyone. I am new to the site and just finished my 6 month diet plan and all my requirements. I am waiting on approval from my insurance company now. I hate waiting!

I am planning to have the DS done laproscopically once I am approved. I am not quite sure what to expect so if any of you have had this procedure and want to share your experiences I would truly appreciate it.

Hello, Welcome to the Forum, great people here. I'm not sure what DS is, I had the Roux-en-Y, but much of the surgery is the same. For me the worst part was waking up from surgery and having a dry mouth. No liquids or anything for the first day, until they did a "leak" test. Once I passed that, I was given drink and jello. After that, it's adjusting to a new life style, sticking to the plan your surgeon and nutritionist give you. You'll do great, don't hesitate to ask questions.

Thank you all for your encouragement and welcome to the site.

The DS is Duodenal switch. I am 50 soon to be 51 and my insurance will cover only one WLS per lifetime, so with my doctor and nutritionist we determined this would be the best surgery for me.

I have read a lot of people have trouble with protein after surgery and I am already worried - the DS actually requires 100-120g of protein daily so I have my work cut out for me trying to find ways to get that much in.

Hi there! I am also waiting on my surgery; my date is the 28th of this month. I live in Ohio too! I have found a lot of encouragement here, simply from reading about the experience of others. Oh, I am having the RNY, although I am familiar with the duodenal switch. :D

Did you guys make ahead your foods for your first weeks after surgery or did you just make them as needed. I am trying to find some things to do ahead of time so I can get what I need even if I don't really feel like making it.

I'm a terrible planner, so I didn't prepare anything. I just make what I need when I need it. I don't think it matters, as long as you stick to the plan your Dr gave you.
