Hello my name is Melissa...Iam a little over 5 foot and my start weight was 212...my goal weight is 130, even though for my height I should be weighing around 112...I personally feel ii would be too skinny and would look sickly...my surgery is next Tuesday, January 15th 2013...my journey began in September...I am from Binghamton New York but am going to Elmira New York to have my surgery...I am a Medical Assistant at an OBGYN office...I have a 4yrold daughter named Leigha who I love more than anything else in this world...I am absolutely terrified about my surgery!

Hi welcome Melissa, Don't be terrified of the surgery. It really isn't that bad at all. I had the Rny Nov.22, 2012. And believe me, I was over thinking everything. I worried about everything. just follow the Dr. directions. And things will be fine. We're all here for you. If you have any questions, just ask. Someone on here will be able to help answer it. Take care. Carla

Hi Melissa and welcome to the board. Being nervous and/or scared is perfectly normal. Undergoing surgery is something that most of us do for the first time when we have WLS, so it's completely new to us. The surgery will be over before you know it. I remember talking to the people in the OR and then I was waking up in recovery. You'll do great and as Bama said, just follow the Dr.'s instructions and you'll be fine. Please let us know how you're doing.

hi Missy2shews Melissa Welcome its normal to be nervous and have second thoughts etc. most of us went through those emotions before our surgery. I hope you have support and help with your little daughter once you get home. you're having the surgery to make yourself healthier for yourself and your daughter. just think by this time next year you'll probably be at your goal weight , possibly sooner. just follow all the guidelines they give you and eat the foods allowed at the stages they tell you, you'll do great. this room has been very helpful to me. please come back and share your concerns, your success's this room is here to support each other.

I think we are all nervous right before surgery-it is normal. You will do fine. Follow your Team's instructions before and after.

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!

Carol

Hi Melissa, welcome and congratulations on your upcoming surgery.
I am also scared about having the surgery - but I am more scared of my life without it.
And as far as your goal weight - that is just a number to get you started with, as time goes by and you get to your ideal weight you will know it and that will be your real number.

Welcome aboard Melissa. I too am from NY (Syracuse area). I am 5'2" and started my journey in July last year weighing 214lbs. I lost 27lbs on my own before have gastric bypass done in November. I'm almost 7 weeks post op now (lost 21lbs) and down to 166lbs. I too feel that I look too thin below 140lbs. I have a large frame. My Dr. didn't give me a goal weight and I haven't really given it much thought. Just glad to be on a healthier path. Good luck with your surgery. Let us know how you are doing.
