I have been fighting with my weight all my life:(
I hit the point just this year that made me break down and lose it. I couldn't handle living like this anymore, I felt like I couldn't take care of myself the way I should be able to. I wanted to just call the undertaker and buy my pine box :-(, I was that low. Instead, I fought through it and contacted my insurance through work and found that they cover this kind of procedure, and that started my journey toward getting me back. (I lost myself years ago and am thrilled to begin to find a way home.:))
I have found a doctor nearby to do the surgery and have gone through my psych evals and assessments by nurses to see if I qualify as a good candidate. I passed and have met with my surgeon, now we are in the waiting game where the insurance runs the numbers and gives the final approval (3 weeks of waiting). In the meantime, I have to have an EGD and Pulmonary Function test and AIC ran, they are doing that on 8/23/13. That way I can get it taken care of before surgery.
They want me to do a 2 week liquid diet beforehand and I was hoping to get some suggestions on the best tasting protein drinks to use.
I also need to talk to people who have gone through this successfully, cause the closer the date, the more nervous I am getting. I haven’t had any soda since 7/30/13 and no I can’t have it again if I want this to succeed, but sugar is a bit harder for me to give up. So, I need to know it can be done, please.
If someone wants to smack my hands when I reach for a donut, feel free.

Don't focus on what you can't have but, be grateful for what you can have. Work on finding those thing that you enjoy other than food, family, music, art, conversation, pets, church, friends, etc. find that place of zen you can find peace when thing get difficult. We are here to listen to you and lend support.

If you can manage to quit sugar cold turkey, you may find yourself not craving it anymore. That's what happened to me.

I did pretty good over the weekend, only had to break down just a bit and have less then a teaspoon of chocolate sauce in 12 ounces of skim milk - just barely enough to give the milk a little flavor. I just got some Muscle Milk light and am going to mix that with milk when I need sweet, and I got some sugar free jello, too. I am hoping to keep up the streak this week.

I never thought of it that way, I will focus on all I will be once this process is complete, instead of what I won't need anymore to succeed.

Thank you for the advice.:D

I found when i was craving chocolate i fixed a vanella proten shake with a tbl of cocoa powder, takes my sweet tooth rigt away, add some mio juice i use orange to it it tastes just like a candy.expearament with urshakes, use flavorings. i never thougt i would make it threw the two weeks well, i did and u will to have patience look for the future, fealing better, looking better, i know its hard buts its doable hunger buddy

Good luck. You can do it! BTW, my favorite pre-made shake is Premier Protein (chocolate) and I buy it at Sam's. I like the taste and consistency and it is a whopping 30 g of protein.

Should I be using the protein shakes now, before I get my surgery date to help sooth my cravings or should I wait until I get to the pre-sugery liquid diet phase?? I don't want to burn out on the protein shakes to where I don't like the flavor anymore after surgery.

I use the protein shakes almost daily pre-surgery to help build muscle from my workouts. Although I don't think it will help with the flavor issue after surgery (everyone says what you like and don't like to eat changes after surgery), it couldn't hurt your health.
