Hi, I am new to the group My name is Mary. I had gastric sleeve surgery 8 days ago.

Welcome and congratulations.

You have made a life changing decision.

Now you need to learn a new way of life.

The surgery is a tool not a total solution.

It gives you about 12 to 18 months to retrain yourself and how you approach food and exercise.

You need to make other things in life more important than food.

That is not to say that you cannot have things you like.

But we are discussing small meals versus humungus huge plate fulls of food!

You will NOT feel hungry for at least a year. They tell me the hunger comes back, but it hasn't so far. For many people it doesn't.

For many people the hunger is emotional not physical. That is why the surgeon has a bariatric psychologist and a nutritionist on his team to help anyone with these issues to get past them.

Best of luck.

Now, enjoy your new way of life, embrace it and become and happier and healthier person.

Hi Mary! WELCOME to the Forum!!!

We are all here to help each other succeed in changing our lives and becoming healthier and losing our excess weight. Then as we lose weight, we can help others who are beginning their weight loss journey.

Life becomes so much brighter as our health improves and we can walk better, sit in a chair with arms without worrying if the chair will be too tight, and having to buy new clothes because the old clothes are hanging off of our shrinking bodies. :)

Good Luck and enjoy your journey of a lifetime!

Hi Mary,

Congratulations on your surgery! I had mine on 12/5 and am doing well. A bit sore, but trying to move around as much as possible. Please share your post-surgery progress.
