Hello everyone! I just found this forum while searching for bariatric foods. My name is Susan. I'm 47 yrs old, and live in Dothan Alabama. I am currently scheduled for surgery in October. Has anyone started on the bariatric foods (the Starter Kit) before surgery? I'm wondering if this is recommended or even a good idea??

WELCOME to the Forum, Susan! Glad you are here!!!

Congratulations on your decision to have surgery and a healthier life!

Never heard of the bariatric foods starter kit. Sorry..

Good Luck!!!

Hi aMarineswife,

Welcome to the forum. Two weeks pre-op from my surgery date, I had to drink three protein shakes per day and three protein bars as well. I was not introduced to a bariatric foods starter kit, but was given a wealth of information from my Nutritionist about each phase of the journey, on what foods to each every two weeks, the amount of liquids I should consume, how many grams of protein I should be taking in on a daily basis, how many grams of sugar, etc. Every doctor I believe has a different agenda for their patients, but I would call your Surgeon's office and speak with a PA or bariatric nurse on the subject matter at hand.

Hello,

And welcome.

Tell us about this starter kit. I am assuming that your doctor may have compiled the necessary steps that you must take in the first few weeks into a "starter kit".

Most of us, as Linney stated, receive a LOT OF INFORMATION from our surgeon/nutritionist/psychologist team. We had several weeks to go over this information. My surgeon's team also has group meetings both for pre-op and post op patients. To this day I still atttend these meetings at least monthly. Many of the folks I know attend all the meetings as much as twice a week.

In the pre-op meeting both post op and pre op patients attend. This gives all the new pre-op patients an opportunity to ask questions and state concerns and hear back IMMEDIATELY from post-op patients what their experience has been.

So tell us more about your program, your local support groups (I hope you have them) and this starter kit.

Again, welcome.

Welcome Susan its a pleasure. Oh and Semper Fi. My husband is a Veteran Marine. So glad you found this Group. They are so nice and helpful. My surgery date is Sept. 23. And I am so excited. But you are much younger and that is ok.. That is great that you received a pack but like the others I received a few samples and information. But tell us what kind of things are you allowed to eat before Surgery??

Have a wonderful day,
Linda
