I haven't even had my WLS yet and I am baffled by the whole pureed protein stage. The thought of putting meat in the blender and then eating it, makes me want to scream. Being a classically trained chef, it goes against my nature.
So, what are some of your tips, tricks or ideas? Any recipes you'd like to share? Please help me? Pureed meat frightens me. LOL
I'd like to have all this worked out by the time I have my surgery. You know? Have things figured out ahead of time. Thanks for any help!

Look at your pureed meats much like a classic pate`, not any different except the addition of some ingredients. You can add eggs as a binder to your meat proteins in such a way as you make a meat only terrine.

Baby food meats, pate`, shrimp, etc...

You can also make a beef or chicken broth and puree the meat into the broth...Remember you can season you pureed foods just the same as you cab regular food...

I guess what's difficult for my brain to register is that there's no en brioche/toast points/baguette. You're just gonna pick up a fork and eat it. But I totally see what you're saying about the moisture, ie; mayo/broth/cream cheese and the seasoning. I bet I can get pretty creative with that. Thanks StinkerBelle!

No en`croute, no rye toast, no points, no crackers... When you do get to the solid food stage you can use cabbage, lettuce, kale, spinach and other veggies in your allotted amount as a wrapper.

I still use mayo / olive oil mayo, real butter in small limited amounts, cream cheese, agave nectar bar-b-que sauce..... Stay away from processed sugars. processed food like substances and processed foods.

My nutritionist and I had a long talk about margarine and all of the artificial crap foods. I prefer real foods. The processed stuff is so damaging and far worse for the human body than the real stuff in small doses.

I pretty much skipped over the pureed stage. I just couldn't put tuna fish into a blender. Luckily it was only 2 weeks long.

This is helpful. I had pureed food last night for the first time. My turkey burger didn't look like a turkey burger... but that was what it was. I don't think I'll be doing too much pureeing. I think I'll stick to shakes, cottage cheese and scrambled eggs for the most of my protein intake. I'll have a nice place of pureed turkey for Thanksgiving :).

I have only been on the pureed food for a couple of days now, but what is helping me is to think of it as soup and not pureed meat. I use some BBQ sauce or Taco sauce to give a flavor that is more appealing. Seasonings can also help to flavor it up and make it more palatable. Also, remember, this is not forever, and in the scheme of things the time will pass and we move onto the next phases which only get better and better.

Yes, The pureed food didn't last that long. It was good to eat fish because that fell apart so easy it didn't need to be pureed. I am at ground meat and some soft meat now. Its great. I just added soft raw veggies, spinach leaf, grape tomotoes and cucumber. Loved adding this little bit to my dinner. My plate looks so full and I feel I'm eating more nutrition.

I have tried a few things the first time around had the lap band... First I was like, if its good whole the pureed got to be the same.. I did ravioli, Let me tell you that wasn't a good idea, lol. I dont know if it was the texture or what, ewe... I stuck with shakes and food the is already pureed or close to it.. Some say baby food, haven't tried that... Good luck

I have 14 days to go until I can bid pureed goodby, I trust I will never partake again. I am really looking forward to soft food phase as that offers you food that is in its original form factor. The pureed phase has been very difficult and find it really hard to force it down but something that I have get through.

I haven't done the pureed thing. Just can't stand the thought. I have been doing ok with the shakes, etc.

The puree diet is very hard but I have been able to find ways to eat it. This Friday I will move on to the soft food, which will be better than pureed, but still not great. I really cannot offer any good advice with respect to pureed foods, it is just wrong on so many levels that find it hard to think of way to make it sound tolerable. Good luck to everyone who has to navigate the waters of pureed food, may God be with you.

Hi, I am at this stage currently, I had my surgery for the gastric sleeve 3 weeks ago. My doctor told me that this is the time to be creative, so I have been experimenting with various foods to see what works and what doesn't. I have been eating a lot of soup, these are easy to put into a blender for the solid ingredients. I have found eggs hard to tolerate unless the egg is half raw so it is very runny. I have tried having small pieces of chicken cooked within chicken soup. This works because the soup will soften the chicken so a blender wasn't needed. But for the protein I have relied more on dairy products rather than actual meat as this is easier for me to tolerate (cottage cheese with pureed fruit, yoghurt with the fruit, and smoothies.

I have several friends who have had the surgery before me, and everyone's experiences have been different with what they can tolerate. You will learn what you can handle and what you can't at this stage. I have learned that I can't rush into eating some foods as it will cause pain or other problems. I also would recommend to not try too many new things at one time or in one day, that way if you don't tolerate something you will figure it out what that is and avoid that item for a while longer.
I hope that this helps.

I haven't done any pureed foods. Just doesn't sound appetizing to me. I have been doing smoothies, protein shakes, cottage cheese, tuna, baked potatoes. Mostly soft foods. When I had my 1 month followup last week, she told me I could eat ground beef, ground turkey, fish, chicken. I had fish last Sat. but haven't tried any of the other yet. I'll try ground beef this weekend.

I have friends who have had this surgery before me, and all three of them have said that beef was harder to tolerate than other meats. I don't know if you would want to try a different meat for the first meal like this to see how you handle it. I tried chicken first, the beef chilli didn't sit so well for me, but if I ate it really slowly, and mixed it with sour cream it wasn't too bad.

I tried egg drop soup first. Then I tried scrambled egg but a little on the runnie side. It took another week before I could do a fried egg. I'm now at the end of 5 weeks and I can't do beef. I can do chicken if it is in a gravy or mayo and chopped fine. I had no problem with fish or shrimp. I'm surprised I can eat cheese, but regular yogurt and pudding is painful.
