I am coming to the end of all my testing and I need to make a decision on what surgery I am going to have, the by pass or the sleeve. I have researched them both some what and I understand everyone is different. I need to make my choice by the end of may. I am open to any conversations and discussions out there. I have lost almost 50lbs on my own before surgery and I am very excited about my changes. I am not sure what questions I need to ask for I am not very good at this forum stuff. I would love to hear any stories you have to share with me.

thank you

Hi , Im going to do the Bariatric Surgery. I don't know what one is better. The Sleeve Gastrectomy or the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bybass ?Can anyone out there help me out please. and by the foods, I do eat the Protein first, then the rest, for snacks, I eat Yoplait Greek, and Kellogg's Special K makes cereal bars and chips. you can eat them instead of the other bad snacks,, but keep the fruit and vegs,in your meals to..

Thank you ,,Bethlyn70 ;)

Welcome to the forum to both of you, readi4achange and bethlyn70. Have you had the discussion with your surgeon? They will have an idea of the best surgery for you once they ask you questions and get to know you better. My surgeon steered me towards the sleeve when I told him I had arthritis and took Aleve every day. Nsaids are not allowed post bypass, but they are allowed 1 month after the sleeve procedure.
I also have intestinal problems and have had a good portion of my colon removed, so I knew that I didn't want any more rearrangement of my intestines, but I don't think there was any MEDICAL reason I couldn't have the bypass.
The sleeve felt natural to me because basically I have the same stomach, it's only smaller. I mean, who needs a stomach the size of a football? If I were a scientist, I'd figure out how to shrink our stomachs through DNA. It would solve all the obesity problems in the world! LOL!
The success statistics on the sleeve have only recently bypassed the bypass, although the sleeve hasn't been around as long as the bypass. Did you know there's a new procedure they are starting to do, called a gastric plication where they do the same surgery as the sleeve, but they fold over the stomach and don't remove it. Good luck to you both!

Welcome to you both. I have a lap band so all I really know about the other two are from what I have read from other people. The sleeve removes. 85% of your stomach it has only been around about ten years. I don't think there is much studies done on it yet. The bypass has been around thirty years or more but, u can have malabsorption from it and sugar and hi fat foods will give you trouble. Your intestine are rerouted and in some cases can become twisted. With the sleeve if something goes wrong your stomach is gone so I don't know what you would do. The bypass can be reversed in ex stream cases. I have not heard much bad about the sleeve like I have about the bypass it's just me but I can't see 85% of my tummy being gone. On the web they show each surgery type if can stand to watch it. Talk to your surgeon and see what he says. There is another forum called thinner times that has a lot of people who have had both the sleeve and bypass you might go there and see what they have to say.

Hi StinkerBelle I am so proud of how well you are doing. I'm curious to know why you say Bethlyn70 is spamming. Why would someone want to spam what would be their motivation? I want to know this so I can be more observant in the future and understand why this happens.
