I recently had my intake app done with all my testing. My ekg came back and the NP said my heart is enlarged.I dont know how enlarged, but I have an app next Monday to see a cardiologist.I hope itdoesnt delay my surgery. Im supposed to have it before March 15th.Has anyone one experienced this>?If o how long did it take them to clear and what test will they require? Thanks!

sleeveme1 I didn' t have the issue you are having about your heart but didn't you get a clear from your primary care dr that it was ok for you to have the surgery? I had to get a letter from my primary dr before I saw the surgeon and I did have an ekg too and fortunately I quess my heart was ok. I know an enlarged heart would probably be a reason why dr are considering you for the surgery . the surgery massively improved my life for I was taken off insulin and high blood pressure med and cholesterol med. and I feel a lot better, had mine 4 months ago and I wish I would have done it years ago,(56) now wish I would have had it done when in my 40's. let us know what you find out, praying you get good results so you can go through with your surgery.Donna

I had shorteness of breath and therefore needed cardiac clearance before my surgery. The tests I had was an echo cardiagram, EKG and a nuclear stress test. I was cleared. I think your surgeon wants to be sure you are okay for surgery, or what precations they might need to take. I agree with Donna that the surgery would only help your heart, but I am not the doctor. Wishing you all the best and good health to you.

I had my clearance from my PCP but still had to see a cardiologist and have a stress test done before the surgeon would touch me. I had the stress test on a Thursday and my surgery was the following Monday. I also have a slightly enlarged heart along with an irregular heart beat. Had it for years and it is usually controlled with a pill and caffeine avoidance. I don't think it will delay your surgery. It is just a matter of getting in to see the cardiologist and scheduling any testing that needs to be done. You want to make sure your heart will tolerate the surgery before the surgeon touches you, he is just being careful.
