RNY or Sleeve

Hello,

I am new to the group and wondering how some of you feel about your RNY or Sleeve surgeries. I will meet with my surgeon at the end of this month but I have had 8 months of counseling and I am still undecided between the two. I am leaning toward RNY because of the amount of weight I have to lose and I am told that RNY might help me with my ridiculous sugar cravings. How did you make your decision?

Hello,

Hi Cecilia! I decided on the RNY because I could look at food and gain weight and I needed all the help I could get.

On Mothers Day, my son and his wife sent me an expensive Chocolate cake. I froze it and we just thawed it yesterday because we had quite a few people here for dinner. I took a couple bites just to taste it so I could tell my son how good it was.. it was super delicious but within 5 minutes I was feeling sick to my stomach and a little dizzy. In the middle of the night I had diarrhea. Sweets don't set well for most people with the RNY. They don't digest right because the part of the intestines that digests sugar is disconnected. So when you eat sugary sweets it will make most people sick. I can still eat yogurt with no problems but nothing really full of sugar. I am very happy with my RNY. The only drawback I have experienced is while dropping a lot of weight it ruined my gallbladder because the gallbladder processes the fat leaving the body. They took out my gallbladder, it was no big deal.. but they left in a stone and it was quite an ordeal to get it out.

If you have your gallbladder you might want to discuss with your surgeon taking it out while getting your bariatric surgery, just my opinion. Many people on this forum have had to have their gallbladder removed after surgery, too.

Good Luck,

Cheyenne
