Hello,

I just joined this site and I was concerned about my vitamins. After the surgery I took them like clockwork, but then i just kept slipping and now it has been over a year since I have taken the daily vitamins. I went to the regular medical doctor and he took my bloodwork and said I was doing fine. I just don't want to be slowly be killing myself due to my lack of taking vitamins. Do you them daily and do you need to take them daily for the rest of your life? Also I feel like I constantly eat. When I sit down for supper for a regular meal I feel full very very fast and can't eat. I often feel like I am going to throw up. Since I had my surgery I cannot eat rice, chinese food or any hard vegetables like celery which I love. Are any of you in this same boat?

Carole-consider yourself luck that you have done well so far without taking your vitamins and any other supplements you were told to take by your surgeon ro bariatric nutritionist. You really should be taking them. Your best bet is to have someone in bariatric medicine monitor your blood work. Regular doctors may not be monitoring everything that a bariatric doctor would. We are "special cases" and need our blood work done accordingly.

According to the nutritional material I was given, rice, celery and other raw veggies were high on the list of foods that may not be tolerated well after gastric bypass (RNY) surgery. I seem to be able to tolerate most anything except whole meats so getting enough protein is a daily challenge for me. But thanks to protein drinks and cheese I usually manage to meet my goal :) :) :)

Hi Carole, Welcome. I eat 5 to 6 times a day but I eat small meals because I fill up very fast too. Your lack of tolerance to the foods you listed are normal they call it dumping syndrome when certain foods make you feel sick, I have to be very careful with the amount of certain foods I eat especilly any starches, I try to stick with high protien foods but ever since I had to quit drinking I have a terrible sweet tooth:mad:

You should be taking your vitamins daily you will notice a difference. When you primary doctor does your blood work up they do not check everything your bariatric doctors are looking for, when I have blood drawn they take about 5 or 6 vials out of me lookin at B12, Iron, Calcium, Vitamin D, as well as cholsterol, liver enzymes, and a complete bllood count, this usually runs me about $200 out of pocket with my insurance paying the rest so it is imparative that you have a baraitric specialist order the blood work to see where you are at because you could be slowly killing yourself, some things are reversable and some are not, so please make an appointment for a blood work up check, it takes a week or so to run all the tests but it will give you peice of mind. Let us know how you are doing. Tom
