Surgery Monday the 7th! & question on traveling

Hello,

My surgery is scheduled for this upcoming Monday morning, and I am really excited and nervous and a million other feelings. But I have a question if anyone has ever spent an extended amount of time in a developing country a few years after their surgery. I'm really interested in joining a peace corps type organization, but I'm realizing I don't know is that would be possible due to the food restrictions and daily requirements.

Any information at all would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!

First, which surgery are you having done? How much weight are you intending to lose? I think you need to be well on your way to goal before leaving for a developing country just in case anything goes wrong and you might not have access to reliable medical care. I would wait until I knew what foods I could or could not eat. I have talked to several ladies who had RNY done five years ago or more and they are doing well enough to do what you want to do. Also be good to have your MD approval before going.

Thanks for the response! I'm having the bypass done, so with the malabsorption I'm a little concerned about it. But I was able to speak with the nutritionist on my team and she helped answer my question. I still would like to find someone who has already done this, so I could find out about their experience, but that may not happen.

Thanks again!
