Weight loss going south...need assistance getting back on track

Two years ago when I had the surgury I was so happy with the progress I was making. I was on my way to my goal weight! I reached 190 pounds, I was working out regularly and changing my life. Now I am at 218 lbs and very disappointed in myself. I eat sweets again, I feel like a bread is my best friend, and excerecise is a thing of the past. HELP!!! I lack motivation. How do I get back on track? I am looking for a support group close to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

check out www.tops.org they are a non profit weight loss support group that is international. They have chapters all over the US and Canada and a few other places. They support all types of weight loss. just click on the locate a chapter link and enter your zip code. It will show you all the chapters close to you, when and where they meet and their times. Good Luck

Hi Smith, Welcome. Your halfwaqy ther already, now quit beating yourself up because that will just make you feel bad. Listen to NanaG and try a Tops if you have one localy. Also try and get to a support group, cut out the sweets and if you want a treat try surgar free but remember they still have calories so use sparingly. Move back to a high protien diet and start back on you meal plan, it is so easy for us to slip back into old habits but since you noticed it means you don't want to, rember you didn't lose it all in a day and it won't come off in a day. So make time for yourself, talk to a nutritionist if you need to and if you need to vent or need some ideas or just want chat we are all here to support each other so hang in there and let us know if you need more encouragement. Tom

I am almost 5 yrs post surgery and struggling as well. While I had the bypass surgery my husband had the band. I lost 101 and gained back 20, he lost 60 and gained that back plus 50 more. I have ignored the idea of trying to return to the protein lifestyle. There are always sweets in the house and I have returned to my old habits of cooking. My husband has multiple severe health issues and is not interested in making the effort needed to return to healthy eating and weight loss. I am determined to get back on the horse again, just thought talking with others might offer new insights.

I know I am in the honeymoon phase. I am 6 plus months post op, still following program and attending local support group monthly.

So......... Get back on the horse. First and most important is start recording everything you eat. This is accountability.

Get protein drinks back into your life. This is so important to get your appetite under control.

DO IT.

Take care of yourself first.

Gezzzz you have worked. So hard don't. Blow it. Get back. To your bariatric team and visit the nutritionist and the psycho. Get your head back into it.

I am 70 years old. I am the lightest I have been in over 30 years. I chose to LIVE and NOT DIE.
Think in these terms.

Hi I'm 3 1/2 years post op. I've been in a severe depression and alcohol, medication and attempted suicide. Now I'm gaining weight back, more depressing. I didn't have all these issues before my GASTRIC BYPASS,PLEASE HELP!!!

Smith,
How are you doing? Remember before surgery? If someone told you that you'd be at 216, you would have been so happy. Try not to think of what you've gained and concentrate on what you've lost.

I too am having many difficulties lately and therefore the old food habits have returned. I started at 298 then got down to 180. I was so proud then things started happening - life changing things, my mother had to go into nursing home, my husband and I moved from Ct to NY to be closer to my mom. My Mom died March 11, 2015. My husband retired. Daughters and grandchildren all over US. I am now at 208 and climbing. Please tell me how to begin all over. Thanks for listening. Donna

I too am 3 years out of the sleeve. I have lost 65 pounds and can't get away from the sweets. I struggle every day. I can hardly stand the protein shakes. When I do drink them I down them by chugging them. I go back to my Bariatric dr on Friday for yearly checkup and hate to even go as I don't know what to say to him anymore. I have a bad knee which I am to young to operate and can get shots only once every 6 months. This makes exercising hard. Just depressed and don't want to balloon up again.

I no longer have a bariatric Dr. Moved to NY and just never could find one. I am also in the mind frame that why should I pay someone to yell at me for not losing when I do that myself. However, I am very pleased to have someone to talk to who knows where I'm coming from. Since I signed on I have lost 2 lbs. One giant step. Thank you for being there. Also, I have broken my foot so exercising alot is out of the question. Also, my biggest downfall is also sweets, but I truly miss milk. I guess I wasn't listening close enough when talking with the Dr. before surgery, now I am lactose intolerant. Thanks again for being there, it truly does help.

I lost 81pounds and then started gaining it back. I went from 304 to 213. I went back up to 230 but now I'm 225. Last week I started the Paleo diet and I love it, mostly all protein no rice, pasta, potatoes (except sweet potatoes), wheats, grains, beans, no cows milk, no vegetable oil, corn oil, canola oil. Only coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil. No sugar or sugar substitutes only coconut sugar or maple smaple and 100% pure maple syrup. I use almond flour, coconut flour tapioca flour arrowroot flour. You make your own mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard. Make your own barbeque sauce. There's no bread and you can use butter. Make your own yogurt because there's no store bought yogurt on this plan. If you go to this site it tells you all you need to know.

Thank you, but I'm really not into making all my own food. The problem I'm having is that portion control. Sometimes, I just lie to myself to feel better about cheating on my diet. I lost five lbs and then gained back three. Just kinda sad right now.

Then you need to journal do you know what your eating and how much. Lying to yourself is helping no one. That's where your problem lies. You need to be accountable so that your in control. And that means everything you put in your mouth. If you lick a cookie account for it. Also every time you want to just snack set a place setting sit down as if its a meal.

I am 3 years out from the sleeve. I made my goal weight and have only regained a few pounds, but I am working hard to get it back under control. I have been focusing on Overeaters Anonymous reading materials, and it seems to help me to maintain focus. They also have groups that meet all over the country for support. It may not be for everyone, but it seems to be helping me. Go to their website and check it out! I totally admit I am a food addict, and I will always be wrestling with recovery.
Also, it really helps to remember that we need to return to all of those rules to help us use our tools effectively - protein first, no grazing, and don't mix the eating and drinking.

I had the same experience and I started using some nutritional supplemements that only helped me to lose weight but made feel much better, gave me energy, and took my cravings away. Now I can give my grandson m&ms and not eat them myself, that's major for me! If you want some info you can call me at 4028830107 and I can tell you about what I'm doing.
