Weight plateau

I'm only 5wks post op and I am having no more weight loss. How long do weight plateaus last? I'm only eating 1 egg for breakfast. 1/2 cup of tuna salad for lunch. 1/2 cup of food for dinner. That's it! I'm drinking 64 or more ounces of water. No extra calories. I'm a little discouraged. Anyone else going through this?

It happens. The body regroups and then continues to lose weight. Just keep doing what you are doing. I have had multiple plateaus. In the early stages they lasted a few days. Right now, I am stuck between 220-222 since March 3, 2014. However, I know ultimately I will lose more weight. That is a 23 day weight plateau. You are doing terrific. I keep my calories around 1200 sometimes over but not by much. My net calories are always below 1200 and most often below 1000.

Just keep following the plan. In the meantime start to recognize all the other benefits you are seeing. Here are mine once again this is more than about weight, it is about overall health and condition.

Medical/Physical Maladies that have been resolved to date

• Diabetes resolved – off all meds, avg reading 110
• BP normal again – I am still taking bystolic 5mg. Resting pulse is around 60 and BP near or below 120/80. Without the bystolic my resting pulse is still in the 60s. However, my BP goes up to the high 130s/high 80s.
• Sleep Apnea resolved – I am not snoring nor do I believe I am stopping breathing. I will confirm this later this year. The air pressure from the CPAP machine was making me very uncomfortable; lots of burping
• Legs no longer swollen
• Waist size has shrunk – Wearing size 44 pants comfortably and just made it into 42 pants.
• Feet are smaller – I was able to put a pair of dress shoes on that I haven’t been able to wear.
• I stay under 1200 calories a day. Most days around 1000 calories.
• I have a lot more energy
• I can dance, dance and dance
• I can walk up neighborhood hills aggressively without having to stop; no longer breathless.
• My incontinence due to my prostatectomy has been resolved.
• I am able to sleep in my bed again. I had been sleeping In an upright chair to be comfortable.
• Dramatically reduced backaches; almost completely gone.
• I can bend over and tie my shoes now!
• I can see my toes again 
• I can do dance steps again that I couldn’t do. The belly is gone!
• Now wearing size 42 slacks comfortably and looking forward to size 40 slacks. Just got into 40s but they are snug.
• Starting to sleep on my side again! This has happened in years!
• Intimacy much improved !!! 
• Fit in to a small diner booth !
• I can run up and down stairs several times without becoming breathless

A stall in weight is perfectly normal and annoying. Just make sure you are getting enough protein and excersise and the scale will start to move again.

Good luck

That is my issue as well I am 6 weeks out and at a stand still. I saw the surgeon yesterday for my 1 month follow up and he said that I am doing great. He told me to work on my protein intake and he also told me to add light weights for the next 2 weeks and then l can go heavier. So continue what you are doing and so will I. The scales will be moving again soon.

You may want to talk to your Surgeon and dietician...

My surgeon and dietician increased my caloric / serving intake due to the daily amount of exercise, walking I do. I was experiencing dizziness, fatigue and slowed weight loss due to the fact I am walking 5+ miles a day. My body decided to go into survival mode and slowed my wight loss down as well as threw in a few other symptoms which all cleared up with the increase.

I went from 3 daily servings of 2 to 2.5 oz. of protein at each meal, 1 daily serving of 2 ounces of complex carbs, 2 daily 2 ounce servings of veggies / fruits, 2 dairies and 1 greek yogurt to adding an additional 2 ounce serving of complex carbs + 2 protein shakes a day which made a huge difference for me.

My protein intake is now at 110 to 120 grams a day + the additional serving of complex carb. (black beans for me)
