Hello everyone. My name is Casten and I’m a newbie to this forum. I am looking to really reach out and see how people are prepping and are doing as they take this bariatric journey. My surgery is schedule for the 10th of December and I’m excited but nervous all at the same time. I’m glad I found this website, and hopefully find a few people in my area even, because its good to have networks of people having the same experience that not a lot of people can relate to.:)

Welcome to the "club". My surgery is December 9th and I am spending my Thanksgiving on my pre-op diet, but thankful that I will be so much healthier and happier next Thanksgiving.

Good point....

I'm on my pre-op diet as well, congrats on your surgery date. It's crazy to think how everything is going change for the better in a matter of days. Please keep in touch as I'd like to know of your progress.

WELCOME CASTEN!!!

I'm 5 months post op and just want to say that for me this journey is a wonderful, life changing event. It really wasn't too painful after the surgery and I really wish I would have had it done years ago. The main hint I can give you is to eat slowly, chew your food thoroughly, and stop eating when you are full so you don't stretch your tummy.

Good luck to all who are having surgery in December. :)

Thanks Cheyenne

Thanks for your support! And congrats on being post op! (I can't wait) :D Since you are bit further along can you give me or any other newbies tips on the best protein products you've found? There are so many options out there and the guys at places like GNC are really never sure on what its like to exist on these things for months at a time. Also, when did you feel comfortable enough to start working out after surgery? Tons of questions I know LOL...but Im always trying to see what everyone has found works for them.

I was ready to start working out before my nurse prac said I should. She said I could tear something. It was 8 weeks before she cleared me for the weight machines, but she did say I could use the treadmill if I couldn't do my daily 30 min walk (because of rain or cold or dark).
I use the EAS and Premier Protein products that you find at SAM's or Costco. I'm down to 2 a day---trying to get my protein from food. It's hard when you only eat 3 oz at a meal.

Doing the protein shakes for prep hasn't been so bad so far. I was a little underwhelmed realizing that with so many brands you find chocolate and vanilla to me the most common option, which might get a bit mind numbing :p

One of my dietary issues is that I am a vegetarian so hopefully tofu will agree with me after as I move further along into the process. I was glad to hear you were motivated to start working out soon after. My doctor said she won't let me go back to the office for two weeks which blew my mind, but hey I guess a staycation never hurt anyone.

Have you ever tried Profect? It is a bottled liquid protein. I picked a few up to try them in advance and some of them aren't have bad. Fair warning on the Fresh Citrus Berry...UGH. But they have only 100 calories, zero carbs and 25 grams of protein in a mere 2.9fl oz serving.

Keep in mind you can use the individual packs, 1/2 of a tube of crystal light per 8 ounce of liquid to make say an orange vanilla dreamsicle protein shake, or raspberry to make a fudge raspberry shake... Check out the different flavors and create some new choices... GNC carries WheyBolic 60 in cookies and cream which I add my crystal light flavors to zip things up.

Oh awesome I truly hadn't took that train of thought. I have tons of crystal light on hand to play mad mixologist with! What does the cookies and creame really taste like?

No, I've never tried Profect. I do have a starter pack of Syntrax Nectar which has a lot of different flavors, and I hate them all! Looking for someone to give them to.

This is also how I took my shakes... with powdered Crystal Light. My favorite was vanilla protein shakes with a little rasberry swirled through it. Very yummy!!! My surgeon has his patients stop the protein shakes at 7 wks post op so I mainly have gotten my protein from eggs, chicken, beef, pork and beans eaten with salad or green beans. The last few days I am eating a wider variety of foods and increased my calories somewhat to trick my metabolism and then I will go back to my stricter way of eating hoping that I'll drop weight easier. So we shall see if it works for me.

Welcome to the forum bluesuede. good luck to you, sounds like you've been through the wringer!
I've heard other people on this site complain about losing lengthy posts. One solution is to type your comments in Word or WordPerfect and cut and paste.

Wow couldn't imagine life without my protein shakes. I drink an Unjury with skim milk for breakfast and another after a long workout. There was a time when I wasn't getting enough protein to support my workout which caused the muscle in my legs to just give out. I would be walking and down I would go. All is good now that I learned that lesson.
My favorite recipes are all Unjury. Strawberry mixed with lemonaid, Chicken soup mixed in fat free sour cream and used as a dip, Frozen chocolate taste like a fudge pop. Also, when the going get hum drum I like the recipes at http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/06/my-favorite-protein-shake-recipes.html

Hi I am new here too! My surgery is Dec. 19th....I am very nervous!!!!!

Hi!!! WELCOME to the forum!!! It's very natural to be nervous. We all have been through the excitement and the fear. The hope for a new and better life is what pushes us through all of this. I will tell you that in my case it was much easier than I thought it would be. Just try to relax and we are all here to help you through this. Good Luck. :)

I have perfected my mint chocolate chip shake. Its chocolate pure protein with a half cap of peppermint extract. It is so yummy. I experiment around with my vanilla. I have a bunch of different sf liquid addins. My favorite is strawberry watermelon in the vanilla
