Acne?

I'm 3 months out from surgery (I had gastric bypass Jan 8th), and a few weeks after, I broke out--VIOLENTLY!!! No amounts of Proactiv, Neutrogena or witch hazel have worked. Even going through puberty as a teenager have I had more than the occasional pimple, but now my face looks like the surface of the moon! My PCP says it could just be a hormone imbalance due to the surgery, and it will die down...but WHEN??? Has anyone else had this issue, and is there light at the end of the tunnel?

My opinion (I'm not a doctor):

Don't waste your time with topical applications of anything. I believe your issue is internal and you must address it internally. A naturopath or a practitioner of ayurdevic medicine should be able to suggest supplements which will help. (My initial thoughts are ashwaganda and/or shilajit but, again, I am not a medical professional.)

As to a hormonal imbalance, why does your PCP think this? Does your blood work support this conclusion? If so, what hormone supplements is s/he prescribing for you?

You are right to be concerned, not only from a cosmetic standpoint but from a general health standpoint. If this is happening on the outside of your body, what is happening on the inside???

Please don't wait. Pursue this right away.

I empathize completely with you. I've always said it is totally unfair that any woman should have to deal with wrinkles and zits at the same time!

Rosacea is also a common cause of breakouts and can be aggravated by the weather. I'm with Qaterra see a skin specialist.

cheers

Have you called your surgeon or his nurse? My surgeon told me that if I had any questions or concerns that I thought could even be remotely related to the surgery pre and post, that I should always call him first before my PCP for the first 12-18 mths as the PCP dont deal with this on a regular basis. As far as hormonal imbalances, I had a severe one after my son was born in 1989 that caused me to have anxiety/ panic attacks and agoraphobia where I didnt leave my house for over 9 mths. I was told by 3 different endocrinologists that the only way they can pinpoint which hormones are out of whack was during an autopsy... (needless to say, I did NOT offer to have one done) Its been almost 25 yrs and I am sure that alot has changed, but I would first contact your surgeon or his nurses or even your dietitian. It could even be a reaction to a food or ingredient in a food. product or vitamin that is new to you!

Keep us posted on what you find out!
